Looking for a quiet, sensible first hack for a gentle novice lady rider. Think ‘mum’s horse’
15-15.2hh, non marey mare or gentle gelding, sound and healthy. Non competitive home. Novice horse owner, horse will be grazing at my yard so full livery professional care. Old enough to know and young enough to want to.
Don’t get in touch if you are palming off naughty, I will be ringing around and will find out.
Good budget for Mr or Mrs Right 🦄

😎💪🏻 Wednesdays Workout! 💪🏻😎

🔵16 Poles

😼 Goal :
👉 Train strength & rhythm
👉 Train timing and response of aids
👉 Train balance
👉 Train accuracy
👉 Train focus

🤨 Ride it - Start on the left rein in working trot. Ride the trot fan and through the very point of the triangle so your horse puts their near fore in the triangle and off fore out of the triangle. (You need to really control their shoulders). After the triangle execute a canter transition and ride the red canter poles (bounce distance is best) - maintain canter, turn down the centreline and bounce canter through the triangle - one stride to red pole. Before turning execute a canter/walk transition. Turn left or right in the walk. Walk to the halt. Execute a turn on the haunches or forehand and walk back to the centreline. Once straight, execute a walk/canter transition and ride the pattern in reverse.

Very timely as we have seen a number of cases locally. Laminitis can occur at any time of the year. Prevention is better than cure - so keep vigilant and act fast friends

We are seeing an increased number of laminitis cases at the moment. These can be prevented, saving a lot of pain for the horse and money for you, by recognising warning signs before your horse is sore. Pasture grasses (even after they’ve been made into hay) cause insulin to spike in some animals - known as metabolic syndrome. A high insulin level causes laminitis. Chronic low grade hoof changes can happen before an acute episode and causes stretching of the hoof laminae. You will see this as growth rings on the hoof that are wider apart at the heel region. Other signs your horse could have metabolic syndrome include regional or generalised fat deposits - even a cresty neck in a thin horse.
We strongly recommend metabolic testing if you think your horse could be at risk because there are good ways to manage the risk, including drugs that can reduce blood glucose and insulin and help with weight loss. Don’t wait until your horse is sore and has compromised hoof structure. It is an extremely painful condition and costly to manage once there is severe damage.

It’s been quite a special week at the yard - horses arriving and leaving, a visit from some chickens 🐓🐓, competition plans being made, shaving half an hour off my 10km hike, spring chaos with the grass pepping everything up and a heartbreaking good bye to a very special horse 💔 No one day is ever the same - it’s not for the faint hearted, but wouldn’t swap it for the world 🌏 💯
