A DNA verified pedigree includes proof of age/mating, identification and microchipping completed by a vet as well as the DNA profile of the horse that has been verified to one OR both parents, in accordance with the breed society/studbook’s criteria.
To obtain a DNA verified pedigree, the horse needs to be registered with a breed society or studbook. Only breed societies and studbooks are given access to stallion DNA profiles by stallion suppliers, owners and/or agents.

𝑫𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒂 𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒎𝒃𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒐𝒓 𝒂 𝒉𝒐𝒓𝒔𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒎𝒃𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒃𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒅? You can register your horse with the following Breed Societies/ Studbooks to obtain a DNA verified pedigree:
NZ Warmblood Association www.nzwarmbloods.com
𝙍𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧 1 – for horses with at least 25% warmblood blood whose sire has been approved for breeding with a WBFSH Stud Book and the dam has been approved in the NZWB Mare Stud Book. Requires a DNA profile of both parents.
𝙍𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧 2 – for horses with at least 25% warmblood blood who have not been approved for breeding. The horse can be registered with only one parent having a DNA profile if both are not available.
𝙍𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝘿𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 1 – for horses with 25% warmblood blood and less than 13% ‘other blood’ other than WB, TB or Arab. The horse can be registered with one parent having a DNA profile if both are not available.
𝙍𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝘿𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 2 – for horses with 25% warmblood blood and more than 13% ‘other blood’ other than WB, TB or Arab. The horse can be registered with only one parent having a DNA profile if both are not available.

For horses out of registered Hanoverian mares, NZ studbook thoroughbred mares & other mares from Hanoverian approved studbooks such as Holsteiner, KWPN, Zangersheide, Selle Francais etc. The horse can be registered with a DNA profile from one parent if both are not available and breeding evidence can be provided.

For NZ or Australian warmbloods with the likes of Ramirez, Landioso, Lordano, Ramazotti, Voltaire II, Jaguar, Corlando, Lansing in their pedigree. The horse can be registered with a DNA profile from one parent if both are not available and breeding evidence can be provided.
𝘿𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙖 𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙣𝙤𝙣 𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙢𝙗𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨? You can register your horse with the following association:
Sport & Performance Horse Association www.sportandperformancehorse.co.nz
This Association registers horses with less than 25% warmblood in the pedigree.
There are also several other NZ and international breed societies and studbooks that verify pedigrees using DNA profiles.

𝑬𝑺𝑵𝒁 𝑱𝒖𝒎𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒉𝒐𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒔 𝒃𝒐𝒓𝒏 𝒃𝒆𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒆 31.7.2024 𝒊𝒏 𝒄𝒂𝒔𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒏𝒐 𝒂𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒉𝒂𝒊𝒓 𝒔𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑫𝑵𝑨 𝒕𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒆𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒕. The requirements for applying for a dispensation are that a vet will microchip the horse, complete the ESNZ ID paper and take a hair sample for DNA testing.
The hair sample is to be sent to Infogene NZ for DNA testing and report. On receipt of the DNA report, it is to be sent with a covering letter outlining the circumstances for the dispensation request, and completed ESNZ ID papers including microchip number to [email protected]
Dispensations are at the discretion of the ESNZ Jumping Board.

1) I have a 3 yr gelding by Eurosport Centavos out of my deceased home bred mare who was by Voltaire II – where do I register him so I can compete in the 5 yr series in 2025/26 Season?
NZWA Register or NZ Rheinland Studbook.
2) I have a 4 yr old mare by Kannan out of a NZPH mare – where do I register her to compete in the 5 yr old series this season? You are not obligated to register this mare as the rule commences in 1-08-2025.
3) I have a 3 yr old mare by Ngahiwi One Eye out of one of Bruce Holden’s mares – where do I register her so I can compete in the 5 yr old series in 2025/26 Season? NZWA Derivative Register 1 or 2.
4) I have a 2 yr old gelding by a station bred c**t we run on our farm out of one of our station bred mares, neither have any warmblood breeding – where do I register him so I can compete in the 5 yr old series in 2026/27 Season? SPHANZ
5) I have a homebred 3 yr old and both parents are now dead- where do I register my horse to compete in the 5 yr old series in 2025/26 Season? Apply to ESNZ Jumping for a dispensation.

• All the above listed organisations are able to help assist with the process and have email contacts on their websites.
• The Companion Animals New Zealand are doing micro chipping events around the country at a cost of $15 per horse – find them on Facebook to see when they are near you.
• The process of registering a horse can take up to 2-3 months so allow plenty of time before wanting to compete in the 5 Yr Breeding Series.
• Once you have the completed registration papers, please send a copy to ESNZ
[email protected] so it can be uploaded to your horse’s profile on HorseReg.
• Go back to the breeder of your horse and ask them to help you.
• This is a one off cost for the lifetime of the horse- there are no ongoing annual registration costs.
• If purchasing a young horse from a breeder, request the studbook registration/ DNA verified pedigree to be supplied by the breeder.
