Race Results – Matamata | Sunday 14 June

A mixed day at the office, but plenty of encouraging performances to take away.

Race 5

No More Pennies 🥈 | Elen Nicolas

A super effort from Turbo. After playing up in the barriers and missing the kick, he showed plenty of determination to work his way back into the race and finish a strong second. It was also pleasing to see him handle the testing track conditions, which gives us confidence heading into the coming weeks.

Mighty Macca | 11th | Tom Wigram

Macca has come to the end of a long preparation. He’s had a number of tough runs and plenty of travelling, and the heavy conditions didn’t suit him at all, which was something we expected. He’ll now head out for a well-earned spell and enjoy some time in the paddock before returning for his next campaign.

Race 6

Jungle Love 🥈 | Masa Hashizume

A brave performance from JLo. She looked beaten at one stage but fought back strongly, only to be caught right on the line. Carrying a big weight and having been a month between runs, she understandably blew out late. She’s crying out for blinkers now and looks set to be very competitive next start.

Race 7

Shez Shamus | 9th | Masa Hashizume

Unfortunately the track conditions proved too much for her. She travelled comfortably through the early stages, but once asked to improve she struggled to let down in the heavy ground. We’ll look for a race over a bit more distance on a better surface if possible and reassess from there.

A big thank you to Robyn and Ken for their help at the races and for keeping everything running smoothly throughout the day.

And as always, a huge thank you to our team at home. The horses continue to turn up looking fantastic despite the challenging winter conditions. Plenty to look forward to as we head on to the next meeting. 🐎💪

❄️ A crisp winter morning in Te Aroha today, but that didn’t stop the team getting their work done.

Reggae Man, Letswishuponastar and Akehurst were all putting in the miles on the treadmill this morning, ticking over nicely and enjoying their midweek routine.

Bright horses, happy workers and another good morning at the track.

Happy Wednesday everyone! 🐎😊

The sun is shining, the skies are clear, and the horses are certainly enjoying these bright winter days. ☀️🐎

We’re keeping our fingers crossed that this run of beautiful weather sticks around a little longer. The team is looking fantastic, with happy horses thriving in the sunshine.

We now turn our attention to racing this weekend, with runners heading to New Plymouth on Friday and Matamata on Sunday.

Best of luck to all our owners and connections—we’re looking forward to another exciting few days.

Winter is certainly making its presence felt! ❄️🐎

A few snaps from the team during trackwork this morning. With the heavy tracks already upon us, we’ll start managing our team to suit the season. Our wet-track horses will come into their own over the coming months, while some of our spring and summer types will enjoy a well-earned spell in the paddock.

It’s also an exciting time of year with plenty of young horses coming through the system, gaining valuable education and experience as they begin their racing journeys. Watching them develop is one of the most rewarding parts of the job, and we’re looking forward to seeing what the future holds for them.

While winter racing can be challenging, it’s also a time of opportunity, and we’re excited about what lies ahead for both our established performers and the next generation coming through the ranks.

A big thank you to our hardworking team who brave the cold mornings to ensure every horse receives the very best care and preparation. 🐴👏

Plenty to look forward to over the coming months.

Pick of the Litter Returns to Winning Form at Te Aroha

Today was a very satisfying result as Pick of the Litter powered through the Heavy 10 conditions over 2200m at Te Aroha to record a well-deserved victory.

Her previous run in open company was outstanding. She was racing out of her grade and over a distance far too short of her best, yet still performed with plenty of merit. With that run under her belt, it was a little surprising to see her paying double-figure odds today.

Masa Hashizume gave her a perfect ride, keeping her out wide and in clear air throughout. It was a patient and tactical performance that allowed her to build momentum and showcase the staying ability we know she possesses.

She's a mare we have always thought a lot of. She's tough, genuine, and gives everything she has. One thing that has really helped keep her happy and thriving this preparation is her jumping. She absolutely loves it and incorporating schooling into her training has been a great way to keep her mentally engaged while building her fitness.

Congratulations to her fantastic ownership group:R Blake, T Stowers, G Waterman, W Robinson, A Koberstein, M Smedts, F Franzen, B Larsen & P Lock.

A special thank you must also go to our wonderful team at home. The conditions this week have been far from easy, but their dedication, care, and attention to detail never waver. Results like today's are a reflection of the hard work that goes on behind the scenes every single day.

We're thrilled for everyone involved and look forward to seeing what the rest of the preparation has in store for this lovely mare. 🐎💙

🏆 Race Results – Te Aroha | Thursday 4 June 2025 🏆

Race 6 – Pick of the Litter 🥇
Masa Hashizume

A thoroughly deserved victory for this wonderful mare and her patient ownership group.

Masa gave her a perfect ride, allowing her to stride along comfortably out wide where she was always travelling strongly. After a terrific first-up effort in Open Company, she dropped back to her own grade today and stepped out over a more suitable distance. The result was an impressive performance, drawing clear to score by an emphatic 3½ lengths.

She’s a mare we have always had a lot of time for, and we believe she can continue to progress through the grades and be a genuine contender in some of the Country Cups later this preparation.

Congratulations to all of her owners — we’re absolutely thrilled to see your patience and support rewarded.

A huge thank you also goes to our fantastic team at home. Despite a challenging week of wet weather, they have worked tirelessly to keep everything running smoothly and the horses in top order. Success like this is only possible because of the dedication and hard work that happens behind the scenes every day. 🙌🏼

Counties Trials – Tuesday 2nd June 2025

Heat 4 – Forbidden Treasure 🥇Ridden by Masa Hashizume

We were delighted with the effort of Forbidden Treasure in her very first trial this morning. She jumped well, put herself on speed early, and showed plenty of determination to the line to record a nice win.

She will naturally take good benefit from the outing fitness-wise, but it was an encouraging debut performance and a great starting point for her preparation. While she may be small in stature, she certainly makes up for it with her attitude and willingness to compete.

She’s a filly that tries her heart out every time, and we’re looking forward to seeing how she continues to develop over the coming months. 🐎✨

Heat 11 - Our Time 🥉 Ridden by Masa Hashizume

After sustaining what was considered a career-ending tendon injury, it was incredibly rewarding to see him back at the trials this morning. Having not raced since March 2025, we were absolutely thrilled with his performance to finish third.

He understandably felt the run over the final 100 metres, and Masa looked after him beautifully once his work was done. At this stage, he remains a day-by-day proposition, but he receives the very best of care from our team to keep him happy, healthy, and as sound as possible.

He’s a very special horse to us, and while we won’t be getting too far ahead of ourselves, we’re hopeful that this is the beginning of another chapter in what has already been a remarkable journey.

Race Results Taranaki Saturday 23rd May 🏇

Race 3
Pick Of The Litter – 4th
Mereana Hudson

A very encouraging return from Pick Of The Litter, finishing 4th and only beaten 1.1 lengths. She has resumed over 2000m and was racing out of her grade in open company, so we were extremely pleased with the effort she produced first up this preparation.

Mereana gave her a lovely ride, she’s a big mare who takes a fair bit of riding, so it was great to see her respond so well and keep finding strongly to the line.

We’re excited about what’s ahead for her this campaign and feel she’s in for a very good preparation 🙌🏼

Taupo Trial Results - Tuesday 19th May

Heat 12 - With Honours

Sam Collett

We were absolutely thrilled with Samantha's first trial for the stable, producing a very professional performance to win nicely over the 900m. She jumped well, travelled strongly and did everything right through the line.
We've made a few changes with her gear and more importantly, have her in a fantastic headspace. Her previous trials hadn't shown alot, so it's very rewarding for the team to see such a turnaround already.
While it's only a trial, she's a much happier horse and we feel we are heading in the right direction with her.

Heat 13 - See You In Beijing

Joe Nishizuka

Another very pleasing effort from our little "Sarge," who has returned in terrific order this preparation. He's a horse we've always had a lot of time for and he showed today that he still had plenty left in the tank through the line.

We feel very fortunate to have such a lovely group of horses in the stable at the moment, and it's exciting to see them all starting to fire up this preparation.
