🏇 Avondale Trial Results — Thursday 29th October

Heat 1 — Mighty Girl | 6th
Jockey: Masa Hashizume

Mighty Girl got back and didn’t make up any ground over the 800m, run in a slick 43 seconds flat. This was her first trial, and we’ll be looking to see big improvement when she steps up in distance.

Heat 10 — Written Desire 🥉
Jockey: Masa Hashizume

A pleasing first trial from Written Desire. She got back and was still very green, but tried hard. She’ll step up to a more suitable distance next time, and we expect her to improve with the experience. Overall, we were happy with her first outing.

Heat 14 — I’ll Be Home Soon 🥈
Jockey: Masa Hashizume

His first trial back for the new campaign, and he was feeling fresh! He had a good sweat up beforehand and was a little naughty in the gates, so we’ll use a barrier blanket next time. He travelled well behind a strong speed, with Masa keeping him nicely on the bridle throughout.

Surpriseabelle (Blue Halter) and Buffy (Satono Aladdin x Lovelight) enjoying their workout on the track.

Two lovely youngsters who have shown plenty of promise and given us lots to be excited about.

Although neither has made it to the trials or races just yet, both have shown plenty of natural ability in their trackwork and jumpouts.

They are progressing nicely and will soon head back to the jumpouts before making their way to the trials as they prepare for their racing careers.

It’s always exciting watching the young horses develop, and these two have certainly given us plenty to look forward to!

The biggest, most beautiful head you ever did see! 😍

Renegade, or Cody as we call him, is back in the stable. Standing over 17hh, he’s currently the biggest horse we have in work—and he’s only just turned three!

By Turn Me Loose out of the Testa Rossa mare Testadrop, Cody is a half-brother to successful galloper Texas.

He’s still untried, as we’ve taken our time giving this big boy a chance to grow into himself. He’s had several short preparations along the way, and hopefully this time we’ll see him progress to the trials and eventually the races.

A big horse with plenty still ahead of him. We’re looking forward to seeing what this preparation brings!

We’re very lucky to have such a lovely group of youngsters coming through the stable. Both fillies are progressing nicely, and it’s exciting to watch them develop and gain confidence with each preparation.

WINNER – YTOA!

A late start to his racing career has certainly been no hindrance for our 6-year-old Reliable Man gelding Ytoa, who recorded his first career win today at just his third start!

With three starts now under his belt, he is yet to finish outside the top three.

Ytoa’s journey to the races hasn’t been straightforward. Originally left in the paddock by his owner, we were approached about leasing him and welcomed him into the stable as a 4-year-old. He had a couple of preparations but went shin sore on two occasions, meaning this is his first serious racing preparation.

He’s always shown plenty of willingness in his trials, but it’s been lovely to see him really put it all together on raceday. At home, he’s a horse who works well without doing any more than he has to, but when raceday comes around, he certainly knows how to turn up and do his job, which is where it counts!

It was an especially rewarding win for his connections, a great group of locals from Waitoa, many of whom are experiencing racehorse ownership for the first time. There’s nothing better than seeing their patience rewarded with a winner.

A big thank you to Masa Hashizume, who gave him an excellent ride today. He took any bad luck out of the equation, went forward and rated him perfectly in front to get the job done.

We’ll now look to step him up over 2000m next start, and we feel a track with a little bit of give in it shouldn’t worry him.

A huge congratulations to Jamie Lock, Brett Morgan, Dennis Fitzpatrick, Peter Baker, Chris Mason and Bruce Luxton.

A very satisfying result for everyone involved, and hopefully there’s plenty more to come from this boy!

RACE RESULTS | WEDNESDAY 21ST OCTOBER

🥇 Race 1 – YTOA – 1st
Jockey: Masa Hashizume

A really smart win by Fitzy today! He dominated out in front and ran away for an impressive victory, showing there’s plenty more in store for him.

A great ride by Masa, who took all the bad luck out of the equation and rated him perfectly in front. A very rewarding win for everyone involved!

🥉 Race 5 – ZEFFERT – 3rd
Jockey: Masa Hashizume

Another encouraging effort from Zeffert today, despite a messy start to the race. He was on and off the bridle early and struggled to find a nice rhythm, but to his credit, he picked himself up and continued to try really hard right to the line.

He’s really turned a corner since arriving with us, and it’s pleasing to see his attitude and race-day performances heading in the right direction. Hopefully, we can continue to build on this positive form.

A big thank you to our team at home, who continue to do an excellent job with the horses. The hard work and dedication behind the scenes never go unnoticed.

And a huge congratulations and thank you to our wonderful owners. Your ongoing support means so much, and we simply couldn’t do what we do without you all!
