Some snaps of our team out disbudding a lovely group of calves this on-farm this week 🐮

Disbudding involves sedating the calves and giving them local anaesthetic, before carefully and safely burning out their horn buds. Removing the buds means they won’t grow sharp horns as an adult, helping prevent nasty injuries to herdmates and handlers. It's much less painful and stressful on the animal getting them done while they're young, as the buds are still only in the skin level.

Do you know why you should supplement magnesium to dairy cows? 🐄

It assists in the absorption of calcium from the gut and mobilisation of calcium from storage in the bones 🦴🥛 Lactating cows require 0.28% of their diet to be magnesium – and it can't be stored in the body, it has to be supplied daily.

Supplement with magnesium in the weeks prior to calving and continue until after spring calving and peak milk production ends (about December 🗓️) to reduce the chance of your cows getting milk fever.
