Introducing Esme ❤️
She represents the history of Kawatiri Quarter Horses perfectly. She is my heart horse, her name means ‘To Love’
In 2009 I imported Ima Ruf Chic (Chook) as she carried the most successful reining blood at that time. By Ruf Major, an open reining Equitana Champion amongst his many accomplishments.
In 2010 she gave birth to Kawatiris Wimpy Chic (Choice). Her sire is Wimpys Little Starlight who needs no introduction. A proven open reining performer and sire of Open and Non Pro winners exceeding a decade in Australian reining. Wimpy Little Starlight mares are also proving themselves in the broodmare pen. Choice is also the dam of 2024 NZ Futurity Champion CPH Dunnit By Starlight. Choice showed a lot of potential as a performance horse but lost some time to an injury and with work commitments at the time the decision was made to find her an exquisite stallion. After being at Equitana Australia I was taken by the mahogany bay stallion legendary horse trainer Al Dunning was riding in his clinics. I quickly learned his name was Rocin On The Ranch (Roc). That evening I watched this outstanding animal along with Australians most successful trainer Warren Backhouse, become the Equitana Open Reining Champion🥇This is the stallion I wanted to breed Choice too.
In 2016 Rocin On The Ranch himself landed in NZ. This has been, and most likely will always be the best purchase of my life 🥰 Roc became my teacher, I thank him for all that I learned about reining. We won many things together in reining and ranch riding including the 2020 NZ Open Reining Champion.
In 2017 Who Whiz Da Man (Pheonix and now known as Titan) was imported from the USA by Wayne and myself. His sire is Who Whiz It with $67k LTE and many accomplishments to his name. Titan was primarily brought in as a film horse where he has exceeded all expectations. He has had major roles including on Rings Of Power and he himself being Mystic, in a kids tv series. Of course I towed him around to reining clinics during this time along with Roc. Initially I was told by an Aussie trainer and judge not to bother ‘trying’ to train a green 5 year old stud who had actually dabbled in a bit of barrel racing in the USA before we imported him. However I did try, and that trainer on his next visit to NZ not only admired how broke he had become, but he also displayed manoeuvres deserving of plus 1’s 👌 Titans first offspring has hit the show pen with success, Kawatiris Gunna Whiz.
In 2018 Kawatiris Roc Chic (Chic) was born. A full sister to Kawatiris Roc Star (Chico) whom I showed as a 3 year old lightly. After riding them both I knew Roc x Choice crossed just how I like them. Chic and Chico are beautiful horses, reliable, nice moving, trainable with ability.
In 2023 Esme arrived, Who Whiz Da Man x Kawatiris Roc Chic. She was always destined for my saddle, from way before her time. I can not wait to see what our future holds because I know she will not disappoint ❤️
