FOUND DOG - NEW PLYMOUTH
This dog was brought into A+ VET this afternoon (Sunday 27/4), when he was found wandering on Devon Street East, New Plymouth. He looks like he may have been having a tough time for a while, so we are very keen to try to find his family. He is safe and has a warm bed and food for the night.

He is microchipped and theoretically his name is "Gizmo", but the phone number we called (from the microchip details) reached someone else, not his owner.

Please share to help us find his family, or call us on (06) 242 1278 if he is your dog.

FOUND KITTEN - in Westown, New Plymouth.

We have had a tiny kitten brought into the clinic this afternoon, found by herself in Westown.
We think she is only 3-4 weeks old and is tame, but looks to have been living rough for a while. She is very skinny, covered in fleas and not very well at the moment. She is a domestic short - medium haired tabby.

If you think she might be your kitten please get in contact with us at the clinic. Call (06) 242 1278.

If you think he might be your cat please get in touch with us at the clinic on (06) 242 1278.

Hi everyone - we would like to introduce our new vet clinic A+ VET (standing for Afterhours Plus Veterinary Emergency Taranaki) - Taranaki's dedicated afterhours & emergency vet clinic. Situated in New Plymouth, we represent a working relationship between veterinary clinics Taranaki-wide. We are open when your regular vet clinic is closed, with veterinary staff on-site all night to look after & monitor your unwell pets.

We opened on the 9th December 2024 and have been available every night, public holiday and weekend since then. We work with your regular vet clinic, sending all your clinical notes back to your normal clinic every time, and liaising with your regular vet to ensure that your pet gets the best possible care. We also offer critical patient transfers - where your animal can be transferred to our care for overnight monitoring, and then back to your normal clinic during the day.

The establishment of veterinary afterhours hospitals is the way of the future - with emergency clinics in New Zealand now in Auckland, Wellington, Waikato, Tauranga, Taranaki and Dunedin. Emergency / afterhours vet clinics are better for everyone in the pet community - representing a better standard of care for your pets being monitored overnight, and a better, more sustainable, quality of life for vets & vet nurses sharing the after-hours / night workload. Fewer veterinarians are wanting and able to continue night / emergency work long-term, which means that the current model of individual clinic emergency work has a limited life-span, with lower numbers of vets sharing the load. The best way forward is to pool resources into a dedicated afterhours-clinic to be able to give the animals the best possible care.

We have a brand new, well-equipped veterinary hospital, with everything needed on-site to look after your pets. Our staff are dedicated and experienced companion animal vets and vet nurses.

If you have a pet and would like to know that your unwell animals are being monitored and cared for during the night, please like & share our page / this post to spread the word around Taranaki. We need the community support to help keep this good idea going. Thank you very much to the vet clinics of Taranaki that have been trusting us to look after your patients so far.
