Pups at almost 3 weeks. Girls on red boys on blue. The sweet little chocolate tri girl is the runt of this litter, with supplemental feedings she is getting stronger and stronger and will soon catch up and be pushing her siblings around. Luna has been enjoying having her own personal chef, me, cooking her delicious doggy casseroles too. Mac is thankfully pretty much back to himself again, a bit quieter, I get the feeling he gave himself a bit of a scare too!

So had a little count up today. We have 5 boys and 5 girls. Girls are 2 lilac, 1 lilac tri, 1 chocolate tri and 1 choc...

So, bit of a long post, I have had a bit of a hard time lately with our boy Mac. One day he just wasn’t himself. The next day he was frightening me, his eyes just didn’t look right and he was getting a little aggressive and unpredictable, habits changed drastically, he seemed in pain or uncomfortable. Took him to after hours vet who thought it was possible brain tumor or meningitis and definitely some brain swelling thing. To say I was upset is the understatement of the century! Anyway we decided to try him on steroids, antibiotics and something to calm him down. The first week or two I hardly slept! Thankfully this path has worked, slowly but surely I have been getting my boy back. Not 100 percent yet but getting closer every day. Now the funny thing was, that the day before this happened I had been disposing of some old mouldy dahlia tubers I found left in the garage, by throwing them under some trees thinking if one wanted to grow, it could. Mac loves to eat dahlia tubers, which are not good for their gut but wouldn’t poison him, the mould, is a toxin, just as they say don’t let dogs eat compost or moldy bread. Now Im not sure this was the cause, the vet cannot confirm it, and is still leaning towards meningitis, which could have been triggered by the mould, in my mind the timeline is bang on. So not able to confirm what brought this on, but just a warning, do not let your dogs eat anything moldy! For me, I didn’t even think twice about throwing those old tubers under a tree! But dogs will be dogs and if they are anything like mine, will eat or roll in almost anything!! Please be careful when disposing of anything potentially harmful to our beloved furry babies! You just don’t know what they might eat!
Our journey through this is far from over and he will potentially be on meds for at least 6 months, I am hopeful he will make a full recovery and be back to his usual self soon!
On another note, our Luna is having another litter shortly, it wasn’t meant to happen, but, with going through all this, I just didn’t have the heart or headspace to deny us having a possibly last litter of baby Mac’s if things had gone badly with him. So it is what it is! We will have a mid to high energy littler of chocolate & lilacs due within the next month. Will update on both situations as they unfold 🐶🐾
