AUCTION QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
🐴So what is a Dutch auction
In a Dutch auction, the price starts at a high price in this case at $50,000 - you can buy any horse on offer for that price. Every day, the price will drop by at least $1000 so you can buy any horse still on offer for that new lower price. And so the pattern continues. At each price drop, we “Longspring sport horses” reserves the right to pass in no more than two horses at each price drop. You have to decide at what price point you will come in and make bid for one of the horses you have picked out. Before you miss out!
You can’t bid outside the price posted so will need to check each day to see what if any horse has sold or been passed in. So you don’t miss out!
At least 50% of the horses listed will be $15,000 or under and at least two of them have a set reserve of $4000. Your chance to pick up a bargains for not much money.
On a successful bid, you will be supplied with a sales contract and invoice to pay a non-refundable 20% downpayment to secure the horse. If the horse fails a subsequent vet check, any deposit paid will be refunded in full. Payment in full will be required before the horse leaves the stud.
🐴How do I make a bid?
You can phone, email or message Vic Martin at with your bid on Messenger, [email protected], 027 280 7369 or 06 378 8985.
🐴After Sales Service
Once sold, we will spend the required time from sale to leaving the stud making sure the horse can confidently lead and have had basic handling done. We will also work with them to load and unload on a float so they are set for their trip to your home. All horses will also have had teeth checked done, feet trimmed and wormed. Other requirements can be discussed.
🐴Vet inspections & gelding
The four year old and young c**ts have not been gelded yet. If you want, we are happy to arrange for the gelding at the stud before they leave so that is one hurdle you don’t have to deal with. The vet fee for gelding will be charged directly to YOU but we will keep them under surveillance during recovery at no further charge.
All horses will have a basic vet inspection before leaving the stud – ears, eyes, heart, limbs etc but not x-rays. Any known issues or existing scars will be notified before they are auctioned. If you want a full vetting, we can arrange that prior to the horse leaving the stud. If the horse fails the vetting then all deposits and money paid will be refunded – full vet report will need to be provided.
🐴Registration, DNA profiles, branding and microchipping
All horses will be registered with the NZ Sport Horse Register and change of ownership papers will be provided to the new owners. Horses will be microchipped and freeze branded with the Longspring brand (kiwi with NZ under it). All young stock sold will have DNA records on file - we are in the process of obtaining DNA profiles for all breeding stock.
🐴What happens if a horse passes in?
We have our favourite horses of course with a view to adding to our existing broodmares and stallions so if they do not reach our reserve price, they will be passed in. We will not be unreasonable in our expectations but the quality of these pedigrees will shine through in anyone’s breeding program. So why not ours!
With the limitation of only two horses at each price point we will have horses sitting at a higher reserve than we would normally expect but likewise we have a large number sitting at much lower reserves than current market rates so there will be some great bargains in the auction.
If you have a particular type of horses in mind please do not hesitate to get in touch with Vic as she is happy to talk through your wants and needs and advise on which horses would suit best as we believe strongly in matching people with the right horse and being as honest and transparent as possible.
