There have been hundreds of reports recently about an unnamed dog groomer in Christchurch accused of serious mistreatment of dogs, staff, and grooming students.This is a loud and clear reminder: Always do your research before trusting anyone with your dog.
Your dog is family. When choosing any pet professional (groomer, trainer, vet etc) don’t just go by price or location — take the time to:
✅ Read reviews – Look across multiple platforms. Patterns of complaints matter.
✅ Check qualifications – What training or certification do they have?
✅ Ask questions – A good groomer will be happy to answer them.
✅ Trust your gut – If something feels off, walk away.
It’s also important to remember that some dogs may be anxious no matter how kind or skilled a groomer is — but fear doesn’t equal mistreatment. What does matter is the environment, handling, communication, and care that a groomer provides.
