Headed back to the races today, first time since the West Coast trip.

And what a great start to the winter campaign, Emma picking up a super 3rd!!

Looks like we might be in for some fun, makes working in the cold and rain all worth it having a day like today.

We have arrived in Westport!!

Emma handled the trip well, along with companion Boston who had his second ever float ride today.

Both good ponies, (maybe Boston will lose some weight 😅).

Unfortunately I didn’t manage to get a drive in any of the Teal races but looking forward to Emma stepping out this weekend.
She’s been getting a lot more confident and improving with every run so fingers crossed we get some money 🤞.

Beckham and Austin are starting to learn what life is all about.

Beckham takes everything in his stride, he’s very much an old soul.

Whereas Austin has his mothers attitude and makes me work for everything I get 😅

Foaling is done and dusted for the season!

This beautiful wee filly arrived at the lovely time of 4pm on Friday. What a perfect baby to end the season with.

It was a successful season this year, with no major issues and lots of happy owners!

Big thank you to all my wonderful clients for trusting me once again to bring their precious new arrivals into the world.

Your support means a lot and doesn’t go unnoticed.

Another thank you goes to Dawne, Lindsay and the team at Prebbleton Vets for all your continued help. The best vets around!

Friendly reminder that horses are dicks 🤣🤣

Broodmare gave me a nice love bite last week, thankfully I had my jersey on as it would’ve been a trip to the hospital otherwise!!

What a day!!

This morning Ash foaled at the very respectable hour of 9am, a beautiful c**t this time! First c**t out of 4 foals. So over the moon with him. Exactly what I ordered. Think he’ll be a keeper!! 💙 have named him Austin.

And then it was off to Motukarara with Emma and the ponies.

Emma was a star today and didn’t miss a beat, getting away safely and trotting her wee heart out. Didn’t make the top 4 but just so happy to not gallop. Definitely on the improve which is a win in my books!

Ponies all behaved too so a good day all round ☺️

They say time flies when you’re having fun….it also flies when your working 13 hour days 😅

2 new babies to introduce, one has since departed to his home, the other made his entrance this morning.

Last week’s baby was a very cute c**t out of a thoroughbred by a crossbred stallion. All legs and ears!!

This mornings baby is a gorgeous clydie cross, whose mother has been amazing for a maiden. One of the best I’ve had.

On the racing side of things, I had Emma in last week at Ashburton, she’s still figuring things out but improving every time.

And Lily, well Lily is not in the good books as you will see by the last photo!!! But she hasn’t been given a kick out the door yet, gets another chance 🫢 not sure why 😅.

Foal update!!

After a busy week I’ve had a nice few nights of proper sleep.

Have one mare due now and then nothing until after cup week!

First baby is a lovely little filly by Sky Major, she kept her owner waiting an extra 3 weeks but he’s super happy with her.

Second we have another filly, this time by What The Hill. A nice strong looking filly who has a presence about her.

Third is a giant c**t by Locharburn, he gave his mum a really hard time during birth but thankfully both came through it great and are thriving. First time mum and she couldn’t be better.

Lucky last is another filly, this time by Speeding Spur. Beautiful dark colour, makes you look at her. Her mother is one of my favourite mares, Fancy Pants.

Hopefully next update isn’t too far away!

Also please excuse my terrible photos, clearly I haven’t gotten any updated ones 😅

Who Am I?

I started Somerset Racing Stables and Equestrian a couple of years ago when I got the opportunity to train a trotter, I jumped at the chance and I haven’t looked back. While harness racing is my main focus, I used to show a retired standardbred and still have a keen interest in the equestrian side, I just no longer have the time to compete myself. Horses will always be first and foremost for me, I love nothing more than seeing them grown from wobbly foals into beautiful athletes. They really are amazing animals, every day I learn something new from a different horse. I never stop expanding my knowledge and I will never know everything about them because there is just so much to learn. Hope this helps you all to know a bit more about me.
