This is one of those posts I’ve written and deleted a dozen times… but here it is anyway.
Running a small equestrian business is one of the most rewarding, yet soul-draining things I’ve ever done. We sponsor events, donate prizes, and support riders - not because it’s a marketing gimmick, but because we genuinely care about the sport and the community around it.
But I’ll be honest sometimes it’s really hard not to feel deflated 🤷♀️
We’ll sponsor a show, and then get nothing. No tags, no mentions, no thank-yous. Then I’ll scroll past a post recommending $5 Temu knockoffs or people shopping overseas 'cos it's cheaper (til you have a fault or need to exchange a size...)
And in that moment, I can’t help but think what’s the point?
Every time I see those posts, there’s this little voice in my head that says, “just shut the website down.” Because when you pour your time, money, and heart into something and it feels invisible it really makes you question if anyone would notice if you stopped. God knows I have enough to do without it 😅
But here’s the thing Temu, Kmart etc won’t tell you: they don’t sponsor your local show. They don’t donate to fundraisers.
We don’t expect grand gestures or endless shoutouts. But the small things; a tag, a thank-you, a share, a follow. They matter more than you’d think. They’re what remind us why we keep going.
So to everyone who chooses to support small; who buys locally, who tags us in their photos, who messages to say they loved what they got - you are the reason I open the laptop again the next morning instead of closing it for good 🫶
Supporting small isn’t just about where you spend your money. It’s about who you want to still be here next year and who will support you in return.
