This week is a special time dedicated to acknowledging and celebrating the compassionate, talented and extremely hardworking veterinary nurses who are the backbone of every clinic and animal healthcare. These well-rounded individuals are always striving to better themselves to assist patients, pet parents and their coworkers.

It's important we take a moment to reflect on the vital roles they take on and look at the many hats they wear on any given day. As a nurse I have heard the turn of phrase “oh you’re just a nurse” but what is a nurse? Among many other things a nurse is an anaesthetist, a surgical assistant, a radiographer, a cleaner, a dispensary, they administer medications, they provide comfort to hospitalized patients and their worried families, they are compassionate and they are advocates for those who cannot speak.

Most of all they are human, and it takes a very strong person to see the hard aspects of the job and still show up to work ready to make a difference, for this we thank you.

🚨CAUTION🚨

Please ensure your pet's safety around calf milk powder, meal, or supplements, as they may contain ionophores.

Ionophores, such as rumensin, monensin, lasalocid, or bovatec, are highly toxic to dogs, horses, or pigs (non-ruminants).

We have seen several cases of poisoned dogs in the last week alone. Symptoms to look out for include:
weakness, lethargy, agitation, ataxia (staggering/unsteady gait), difficulty breathing, dilated pupils, or drooling.

If you suspect ingestion of anything containing this poison, get to a vet immediately, as poisoning is very serious and can lead to death.

Products meant for ruminant animals (cows, sheep, etc.) will be clearly labeled with warnings. Please store these items safely and supervise other animals around these products.

Our friends over at The Referral Centre Veterinary Hospital Hamilton have had a puppy bought into them found on Goodwin Ave in Morrinsville. Unfortunately the puppy has sustained a leg injury so we are needing to find the owners. Entire male, no microchip.
