TD, Tinks Pottinger is going to give a talk on the do's and don'ts of Eventing.
As the Eventing season is nearly upon us West Wind Eventing decided to organise this talk for its Grass Roots Squad to get to know some of the rules around the sport - especially as I think there are some new rules being brought in for the 2025/26 season.
We have decided to open up this talk up to any of you that are interested. There will be a Q&A time available at the end if you have any specific things to discuss.
It will also include a talk on fence judging to give the parents an insight as to what is involved ( not as scary as some of you think ) this will hopefully encourage parents etc of rider to volunteer to help at future events.
Jed at the pub has kindly offered to open the kitchen especially that night so people can order basic things like bowls of chips. So no need to cook dinner afterwards.
If you are interested in coming please comment below so that I have an idea of numbers.

Dressage lessons available with Margo Lawrence here at West Wind Equestrian on Weds 6th and Weds 13th August from 3pm onwards.
$60 for private 45 mins lesson or
$50/rider for 45 min lesson for 2 riders.
Plus $15 groundfee /rider

The weather gods were with us again yesterday for our Combined Training Winter Series. Numbers were small this week as there were also alot of other things going on, but the main thing was everyone had fun. The kids are all improving from show to show and it's lovely to see them grow in confidence with their riding.

I think Emily Cole nailed it on how all of us horse owners feel by mid winter.

On the bright side it’s only 6 weeks left to go until Spring.

West Wind Eventing welcomed a few new riders to their training camp at Dragon Park this last weekend.
We kicked off the camp with a dressage session - working on straightness down the centre line / size and roundness of our 20m circles at A/C/B and E. Hitting our transitions at the correct marker.
After lunch we went back out and did showjumping - we started off with riding good lines over smaller jumps and most girls progressed to achieving their goals of jumping a round of 80cms.
On Sat evening we had a shared dinner while Hannah Gudsell from Dunstan came and gave us a talk on Nutrition for our ponies.
The ground conditions for xc on the Sunday morning were challenging but after Clive and I had had a walk round and checked the jumps we assured the girls everything was OK. It gave me the opportunity to discuss riding to the conditions and the use of studs for such conditions. Again all the girls stepped up and confidently jumped some of the bigger jumps.
Thank you Pam and Clive for the use of your amazing facilities and Jo Merritt for being camp mum and keeping the wood burner going so we could dry off and warm up after riding.
All the girls left feeling they had learnt something and achieved their goals ready for the on coming season

Challenge Day Tuesday ( 8th )
10am to 12pm
Either bring your own pony or hire one of our school ponys .
Adults and kids welcome
1. Fastest Round the World Challenge -
a. - regular way
b. - hands on head
c.- arms folded

2. Tissue paper Challenge-
Walk/ trot/ canter and pop over a small jump with a piece of tissue paper held by your knees against the saddle.

3. Cup of water Challenge
Jump over 5 little jumps carrying a cup of water in one hand. Most water left in cup wins.
a. - poles on ground
b.- 20/30cm jumps
