It was a fantastic weekend just been at 4 Peaks Arena. Thank you to Reining and Versatile Horse Association - NZ for having me host a cow horse clinic down in my home town Geraldine.
What an amazing group of horsewomen, you all really put the effort in and made some great improvements with your horses this weekend, it was a pleasure to help and watch the progress happen! 🐂

Thank you to those who captured some great shots, and a huge thank you to Jo for the hire of her cattle and fabulous facilities at 4 Peaks Arena and her horse Mr Flint. 💛

• Ashburton Dressage Championships today for our first ever go at dressage.

To say I’m proud almost feels like an understatement.. I am in awe of Ra and what he continues to teach and offer me. His kind, gentle, relaxed nature is so forgiving and he seems to put up with his rider making many mistakes as I to learn along the way with him. These past few months we have both been putting in the hard yards with our instructor Nicole Ostermeier, trying to teach this cowgirl how to turn her toes in and not out. 😅 We’re still getting there, but she has certainly helped me unlock some of Ra’s potential every session, so a huge thank you to her for helping us achieve what we did today.

A big thank you to Ra’s second owner/mum Catherine Sellin. This was once an idea in our head 5 years ago to play our hand into the dressage world when we found Ra’s sire Bloomfield Furst Love Song and now it’s finally become a reality to have produced one of his progeny ourselves and what a pleasure it’s been.

A very special thanks to Jo Morgan for being the amazing support you were for Ra and I in our first debut today, we couldn’t have done it without you.

LVPH FURST LOVE SHINING STAR came away with a 2nd placing today and only 0.4 points away from 1st with a score of 72.8 in the Non Registered Horse Preliminary 1A.

You are a true gem of a horse, with one of the biggest hearts I’ve come across in a while, someone will be spoilt to have you in their paddock one day. 💛

Lastly a special thanks to Ashburton Dressage for putting on a fabulous weekend and to all the behind the scenes helpers! 😊

Been very lightly started with a few rides on him with ease, three beautiful paces.

Super sweet easy going nature.
Great to cover, wash, tie, float, lead from another horse, has been exposed to stock, tractors. Good to trim and already had one set of front shoes on with no dramas.

She is currently in foal and will be available after this breeding season once her foal is weaned due to currently being out on lease.

Meet Ra (Warmblood x TB, four year old) on the team at LV Versatile Performance Horses, day two of being back in work and he has come in like a dream. Riding this gentle giant feels like floating on a cloud, with three exceptional paces and a calm temperament and friendly nature you can’t not adore him. 🫶🏼

✨ The books are now officially open from October onwards. ✨

I will be based and training in Geraldine at 4 Peaks Arena this coming summer. I feel very fortunate to be able to have the opportunity to train at these facilities with plenty of variety and exposure for horses of all levels and ages.

4 Peaks Arena is home to a 40m x 60m well fenced arena with a fantastic all weather surface, 20m round pen, a Cowboy Challenge Obstacle Course and endless options for trail riding in the area.

✨ Update on 2024 so far!

Just over a month ago now I jumped on a plane to embark on a journey back to the US, on route to Colorado to Reining Trainer - Vanessa Strotmann. I met Vanessa in 2022 at Todd Bergens where she was an assistant trainer. I really loved her training methods and style with the horses, with the plan of eventually wanting to return I expressed my interest of coming back to learn from her one day, now here I am. Located in a picturesque valley, with lush green pastures and herds of Elk roaming the fields, it’s easy to say I’ve fallen in love with the area as much as the horses.

I will be returning to New Zealand in the spring and am excited to announce I’ll be based and training at Four Peaks Arena, Geraldine.

I am offering training spots for a very limited number of outside horses this summer starting from October onwards.

Catherine Sellin and I are incredibly proud to introduce our superstar 3 year old Warmblood TB cross, LVPH FURST SHINING STAR. Having worked with and seen Bloomfield Furst Love Songs’ progeny we very quickly fell in love with the temperament and trainability of them, so we carefully selected a proven mare not only by conformation and temperament but one who had made her presence in the show ring taking home champions around Canterbury, jumping 1.5m in Eventing and show jumping to a 1.10m.

The end of November 2023 was the beginning of Ra’s career under saddle. Having been under saddle lightly this summer, we are so proud and amazed at how much he has showed us his willingness to try, how naturally balanced he is in his body and a true pleasure to work with, to say we are a bit smitten by him is quite an understatement.

We’d like to say a special thank you to Larissa Corboy Equestrian for her amazing help within these last couple of months with Ra and showcasing him for us, also to Bentleys’ owner and trainer Anna Terrell and Anna Gale for always giving us their support and encouragement.

Ra is now off for a well earned holiday and rest till I return in the summer to continue his training and get him back into work ready to hit the NZ market for his new home. 🤎

I still remember the day over 6 years ago, driving into the beautiful Maruia Valley on our way to meet what would soon be called Cascata Quarter Horses - NZ, home of the one and only LIL HOLLYWOOD FRECKLES, aka Idaho and his amazing owners. Nestled beside the southern alps and sitting along side the Maruia river it was and still is a true hidden gem and a place I still love to go visit today. Little did we know that day would be the beginning of an incredible friendship and journey with horses together.

From having the pleasure of watching Idaho make his debut in the show pen with NZ’s highly respected trainer Gerry Johnstone, to meeting his first foal crop out of their all imported Australian mares, I knew this was the beginning of an incredible opportunity for NZ and it’s western performance world. This show season showed New Zealand the true nature and talent of these beautiful horses from the Valley, I watched in awe as these young ones stepped confidently into the show pen and in amazement seemed to get better with each run. I honestly had tears in my eyes that day so proud to have witnessed and be apart of Cascatas’ journey to get here.

Having started one of them myself, having had the pleasure to train another this summer and now having the chance to have one in my own paddock awaiting my return from America I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for Delta and I.

A huge warm thank you to Cascata Quarter Horses - NZ for the opportunities to work along side you and your horses, and for the amazing friendship that has formed because of it. Roll on the next 6 years and many more after that!

A dear friend Beda trainer/owner of The Dunes Equine and well known horsewoman from South Ballina NSW Australia is coming back to NZ for three weeks from the 2nd - 22nd of April.

She will be based in Okuku North Canterbury and is very kindly offering her services for the time she’s here.

Beda specialises in • re-schooling horses that have picked up bad habits under saddle or on the ground.
• Anxious horses that need confidence brought back to them under saddle.
• More mileage and exposure for your young or older horse.
• Or returning back to work.

Beda has a soft, clear approach with a lot of positive reassurance on the horses she works with, she has a great reputation and is confident in the programme she offers due to her great success of helping educate some difficult horses.
