Cambridge Cattery

Cambridge Cattery Cambridge Cattery is a small family run boarding cattery. Here at Cambridge Cattery, we LOVE cats! We have 4 cats of our own, who are all spoilt rotten!

Our promise is to provide the same care, love and atrention to our customer’s cats as we give to our own family cats. - Because cats are loved family members and because we love cats… (Have a look at our "About Us" page) - And we treat all our guests the same way! - Our aim is to provide accomodation and care that we would feel comfortable leaving our cats in. Our Cattery is a purpose-built facili

ty, set in peaceful countryside just 4km from Cambridge town centre in the Waipa District in Waikato. The Cattery is fully insulated with options of private indoor / outdoor suites and / or communal accomodation. We regularly spend time with our feline guests in order to make them feel more comfortable and relaxed. BBC Radio 4 streams live over the internet in the background to provide soothing voices and that homely feel (we find that the daily "BBC Shipping Forecast" is especially soothing for our guests). Whether you are heading away on a business trip, holiday, or are in the process of moving, and need your much-loved cat properly cared for, please give us a call and come and see us.

This SHOULD be the law here in New Zealand too…

In a significant step for animal protection, the United Kingdom has passed the Pet Abduction Act, making the kidnapping of a cat a criminal offense punishable by up to five years in prison. The law applies in England and Northern Ireland and reflects a growing recognition that pets are not simply property but living companions who form real emotional bonds with their families. Supporters of the legislation say it acknowledges the distress animals experience when taken from their homes and the deep impact such loss has on the people who care for them.

For years, campaigners argued that older laws treated pet theft mainly as a financial loss, focusing on the animal’s market value rather than the emotional harm involved. Under the new act, courts can now consider the welfare of the animal and the emotional toll on families when determining consequences. Many animal advocates see this change as an important milestone and hope it encourages other countries to strengthen legal protections for companion animals.

Wow. That would be the equivalent of about 136 human years….

Flossie, a gentle tortoiseshell cat from the United Kingdom, was recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest living cat, and by 2025, she had reached the remarkable age of 30. Even as time slows her down, she still follows her daily routine, moving carefully through a world that has grown softer and quieter around her.

Age has taken some things from her—her sight is dimmer, her hearing not as sharp—but it has not taken the gentle presence she offers. She remains a small, steady soul, cared for with patience and love, just as she has given that same quiet companionship for decades.

Her life is more than a number. It is a long, shared story of trust, comfort, and belonging. And in that story, we are reminded how deeply a cat can become part of us, staying not just for years, but for a lifetime that feels almost timeless.

Well, it’s been a long while since I’ve posted anything here on our page. - Obe still been taking lots of photos of our guests, but the demands of running a business at the same time as having 2 young children to deal with has meant that I find myself having less and less time to do much more than the most important day to day tasks.

That being said, I do have an important announcement:

We have a new phone number, which is….

021 CAM CATS
(021 226 2287)

We will be retiring the old mobile number in the coming months. We will however keep the existing landline number for now as it automatically redirects to the new mobile number, but we will also look to retire that number at some point when we have new signage made for the cattery.

Therefore, if you need to contact us, please update your phone book with the new number….

Well, here they are. These are the photos of most of our current and recent guests from the last 2 weeks. I hope you enjoy them.

We have had around a dozen black cats staying with us during this period too, so I will post another round of photos with just the black cats in the next couple of days.

Happy New Year everyone.

Well, I’m not going to lie. The last week and a half has been absolutely exhausting catering to a full house of feline furry friends (and it will be like this for another week or so). - However our guests seem to be very much at home here and some of them have even made new friends over the festive holidays.

I have been taking lots of photos of our guests and having spent much of today sorting through them all, tomorrow I will be posting a plethora of individual portraits, so, if your furry family member is currently staying with us then there is a high probability you will see a photo of them then.

For today however there’s just a few group shots of some new found friendships… 😺

Did anyone see “The Project” on TV3 on Friday evening? - A photo of our cat, Powder was featured on their “Beat That” segment. We didn’t win and silly me forgot to mention his name when I submitted the photo, 🤦🏼‍♂️ but it was still exciting to see the photo on TV. 😺 - You can watch the segment below… (UPDATE - Link is no longer available)
