How many can you see?

Sorrel has had her kittens.

Something is off with Sorrel girl.

She's thrown up a couple of times this morning, isn't eating and isn't herself.

This is a tricky balance, we could be looking at morning sickness, early labour or other typical pregnancy symptoms or we could be looking at her being sick, cats can have a number of complications.

I don't want to shove her in a carrier and in the car if she's in early labour, but we also need to get a vet check if she's not okay.

We've been in contact with our vets and we're watching her closely.

What a week it's been for Crimson, this timeline makes my head spin.

Monday: we see a Facebook post about a pregnant unclaimed cat who is living under a deck.

Tuesday: we make a plan with her feeders.

Tuesday: at 9pm the confirmation she's been secured comes in.

Wednesday: shut down, non responsive.

Thursday: the roast chicken is too much for her to ignore and after lots of bribing she let's me pat her.

Friday: gives birth to four healthy kittens.

Both of our girls decided today was the perfect day for a birthday party.

Happy Birthday to Crimsons three boys and girl & Clovers three girls and boy.

Both of the girls are attentive mothers.

HOT TAKES

There's a lot for people to disagree about in rescue, here's some of the things I believe that might be a little controversial.

1. I dont euth FIV or FIP.

2. I dont TNR without a plan. If there's no committed feeder there's no returning.

3. I'm pro vaccination.

4. Desexing at 1kg is worth it.

5. I'm pro indoor but will adopt to indoor/outdoor homes.

6. I utilize crates. Some rescues don't, that's great. If I didn't crate cats I couldn't take on the spicy ones, the toms during kitten season, the sick ones.

7. I dont spay abort beyond 7 weeks. If you want that for your cat I'll book the appointment. I'll always back other rescues doing what they believe is right. But for me, that's my decision.

8. Fed is best. We have cats on biscuits, cats on wet. We've got prescription diets and raw fed. As long as its meant as pet food it's all good with me.

Tis the season.

Clover is due any day now, and as of last night we have a second expectant mother, Crimson.

This raises a controversial and heated argument in rescue. Spay Aborts.

I dont think there's a right or wrong answer at this point, and the only correct answer is that both of these girls should have been desexed months ago.

Some rescues never spay abort. Some do it right up until delivery. That's their decision as the caregivers of those cats, and I'd always back their play.

I consider my approach as a balanced one. I won't spay during a seven day hold and I won't spay after seven weeks. There's a number of reasons, and it's not something I do lightly.

I've heard arguments for and against on both sides. This is where I'm comfy.

Babies will be here any day. Both of the girls are warm, dry, fed and safe. That's the most important part.

Bruce was back at the vet today after he opened up his wound over the weekend.

Thankfully it doesn't look infected so we just need it to heal now.
