We all are aware of regular and repeating earthquakes in Nepal destroying huge amount of human, properties and livestock. Nepal is fully Agro based nation and 80% people are directly depended on agriculture, more specifically in animals. Due to the disaster stroke and lack of disasters plans, Nepalese and Nepalese government is threatened heavily by this losses. The count of human losses are incre

asing day-by-day and till now it reached to above 6,000. Property losses is still out of estimation and the damages are seen severe in remote areas where temporary building were made haphazardly. Besides these losses, Nepal lost its many cultural heritages, government offices, apartments, shopping complexes, etc. The support from worldwide is eroded in this situation but are just concentrated to human and property losses. In contradictions to this, as an animal welfare organization and animal advocacy, we are focused on the sufferings and damages in livestock. The earthquakes started hitting the major parts of Nepal from 24th April and is continuously hitting till today (30th Aprill). First quake was of 7.9 magnitudes and till date 120 quakes with magnitudes above 5 has been occurred. The Affected regions of this disaster are

Position Statement of Nepal Animal Welfare and Research Center (NAWRC)
Regarding the Request for Feedback on the Draft of the Animal Services and Animal Welfare Bill 2083 (2026)

Nepal Animal Welfare and Research Center (NAWRC) expresses its serious concern/interest regarding the legal provisions proposed by the Government of Nepal on animal services and animal welfare, aimed at making the legal and policy framework concerning animal welfare in Nepal timely, scientific, and practical.

Animal welfare is not a subject merely related to the protection of animals. Because it is directly linked to public health, environmental balance, biodiversity conservation, social responsibility, and human empathy, any legislation must recognize animals not merely as means of economic production, but as sentient beings.

Nepal Animal Welfare and Research Center (NAWRC) emphasizes the necessity of incorporating into animal welfare legislation:
* A clear definition of cruelty against animals
*Scientific management of community dogs and cats
*Humane sterilization and vaccination programs
*Clear standards regarding the operation and ownership of animal shelters
*Effective Regulations regarding animal transport &
*Effective provisions for penalties and punishment
We strongly feel the need to build a modern, effective, and humane legal framework by respectfully including the experiences and suggestions of organizations working in the field of animal welfare in Nepal, veterinarians, researchers, local governments, and stakeholder bodies.

For past years, Nepal Animal Welfare and Research Center (NAWRC) has been continuously working in the fields of rescue, treatment, sterilization, rabies control, research, awareness raising, and the promotion of humane behavior. We remain committed to strengthening the spirit of animal welfare and peaceful coexistence in the days ahead.
"Protection of animals is the protection of humanity."

Some animals are abandoned when they need love the most.

This poor pet dog was left on the roadside after becoming seriously ill. We found him lying half-buried in mud and dirty water. We rescued him, gave him a bath, and did everything we could to treat and comfort him. Despite our best efforts, he passed away after two days.

No animal deserves to be abandoned in any situation. They deserve compassion, care, and dignity until the end.

Rest in peace, dear friend. 😢

🚑 HELP US BRING OUR RESCUE VEHICLE BACK ON THE ROAD 🐾

For years, the only makeshift rescue vehicle Double Cab Bolero(We does not have a dedicated rescue ambulance) of Nepal Animal Welfare and Research Centre (NAWRC) has been an essential part of our daily animal welfare work. It has transported injured and sick animals, rescued dogs, animals requiring emergency treatment, dogs for sterilisation and vaccination programmes, and many other animals in urgent need of care.

From responding to road-traffic accident victims and rescuing severely injured or diseased animals to supporting our regular rescue, treatment, rehabilitation, sterilisation, and rabies-control activities, this vehicle has travelled countless kilometres to give vulnerable animals a second chance at life.

However, due to years of continuous use and the accumulation of dog urine, moisture, dirt, and other waste during rescue and transportation activities, the vehicle’s rear carrier bed has severely deteriorated and decayed. The iron trust structure and reinforcement underneath have also been affected.

The vehicle is now under repair, and the complete restoration of the carrier bed—including the necessary steel reinforcement—will require a significant amount of funding. Without timely and quality repairs, our day-to-day rescue and emergency response work may be seriously affected.

🙏 We sincerely appeal to all animal lovers, supporters, well-wishers, and concerned individuals to contribute whatever they can. No contribution is too small. Every amount will help us restore this vital rescue vehicle and bring it back into service as soon as possible.

Your support will not only help repair a vehicle—it will help us continue reaching injured, abandoned, sick, and vulnerable animals when they need us the most. 🐕🐈🐾
