Merry Christmas to you, your family, and of course your horse too. 🎄

If you celebrate, I hope you enjoy the days ahead and have a great time with everyone you love most!

Looking back… 2025 has been huge for us.

We celebrated 10 years of the TRT Method, and our community grew into a family of 100,000 members. We also started new partnerships with riders like Alizée Froment, Matt Harnacke, Jesse Drent (and more to come).

From the launch of Camp TRT and more long-form content, to building the Young Horse Competition Series, this year has been all about innovation, learning, and connection.

Our TRT Team also expanded with new people behind the scenes, ready to create more content, support our members, and spread the TRT message worldwide.

No matter if you’re into dressage, jumping, eventing, or vaulting, seeing this community show up for each other has genuinely been the highlight of my year.

Thank you for being part of it. Your support is what makes it possible for us to keep building, teaching, and sharing this work, and I loved meeting so many of you at live events and in our Q&As.

❤️ Merry Christmas,
Tristan & the TRT Team

I mean… I get it! 🤷🎅🏼

What you don’t see in the test… might be the most important part. 👇🐴

In most competitions, the bell rings and your test begins.

But what about everything that comes before?

What about the horse that’s still holding tension from the warm-up?

What about the rider who needs two people holding the horse just to get on?

If your horse isn’t okay with being mounted… Is he really ready to be ridden?

I believe every (young) horse deserves a good first experience.

Do you think mounting should be part of the test? Let us know 👇

Some horses don’t react because they are “difficult.” They react because something in their body or mind doesn’t feel right.

In this episode, we work with a three-year-old mare who already has a long history. She became dangerous to handle, changed owners multiple times, and was close to being given up on completely.

When a horse reacts this strongly, it’s easy to label it as attitude or bad behavior. But often, what you’re seeing is a horse that feels uncomfortable in her own body and doesn’t yet have the tools to deal with that feeling.

In this new episode of Problem Horses Explained, we take a closer look at where these reactions really come from, why solving just one piece is rarely enough, and how small, well-timed moments can start to change a horse’s entire way of responding.

👉 Comment ''EPISODE'' and I’ll send you the full video.

If you’ve ever worked with a horse that felt like a last chance case, this episode will feel very familiar.

Stop pulling and pushing your horse into the trailer!

Focus on the front legs and encourage your horse to lean forward, creating a ‘yes’ posture.

This helps them feel more comfortable and confident when loading.

A flag, a bag, an umbrella... What are these tools really for?

"A lot of people think... the tools are about getting them quiet or getting them used to an umbrella 'cause you see them at shows."

As Tristan explains, this is a fundamental misunderstanding.

If your goal is to make your horse "stand still," you are likely teaching them to go into "freeze mode." You get a horse that looks okay, but internally, they are trapped, disconnected, and just waiting for the pressure to stop.

The goal is the exact opposite.

The goal is to free the horse from herself. To teach her to find a "connection conversation in the body."

The tool is not a scary object. It is a way of "communicating an element of energy" that involves movement, touch, sound, or approach. It's a way for us to feel them and "draw out" that connection.

True confidence is NOT standing still. True confidence is freedom of movement.

Confidence is "being able to interact and move freely around the thing." It's the self-mastery to go between, around, or over... so that, as Tristan says, you could "light the arena on fire and we can just walk through it."

Have you ever been focused on getting your horse to 'stand still' for a scary object? This shift in perspective from 'freeze' to 'freedom' is a complete game-changer.

We want you to meet Ellie and Mr. Jasper (who she rightly calls a "purebred good boy").

When Ellie first got him, Mr. Jasper was a Mustang who had come from a kill pen auction. He wasn't just nervous; he was untouchable.

You couldn't put a halter on him. He didn't know how to take treats. It took him a week just to learn how to eat grain.

Ellie was desperate to help him. She spent over $1,000 on other online programs, but nothing was working. Her only goal?

"My only goal was to just be able to fly spray him, 'cause he was that terrified of me and of everything."

Then, she found the TRT Method.

We'll let the results speak for themselves. With Tristan's teachings, Ellie can now: ✨ Safely fly spray him. ✨ Have him stand at liberty (free!) for the farrier. ✨ Ride him. He's been ridden 10 times, half of them "ba****ck with a halter... just hacking through the pasture."

When Ellie sent the video of her sitting on him for the first time to her friends, they were in total shock. It's a transformation that still feels "incredible to this day."

This is what happens when we stop doing things to a horse and start helping them find a new understanding. As Ellie says, she was able to help Jasper with "realizing humans are safe and can be a really enjoyable space."

Ellie and Mr. Jasper, your journey is an inspiration. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.

Please join us in celebrating this incredible partnership in the comments! 👇

Leading your horse shouldn’t be about control. 🚫

Sometimes, horses get overexcited, and when we hold them back, we’re only restraining that energy.

Instead of controlling your horse, the first step to helping him relax is to let go.

But what if your horse starts to walk off? This is where redirection comes in.

Instead of controlling your horse, we redirect their energy into what we call in TRT the ‘space of conversation.’

This space is where the energy from both you and your horse meet in the middle.

It’s where your body language, thoughts, and voice align with your horse’s energy, creating better communication and understanding. A horse that is too forward or too disengaged won’t be in this space, making it harder to connect.

When both horse and rider are in tune, this space allows for a more meaningful conversation.

When your horse gets distracted, how do you bring back his focus?
