Rehoming Lithuanian shelter pets into homes in the Netherlands - to find kindness, love and safety.

Rescue Dogs and Cats The Netherlands is run entirely through volunteer work. Based in the Netherlands, we work in collaboration with several animal shelters in Lithuania, helping to adopt and rehome rescue dogs and cats to the Netherlands and allowing them to experience the love, kindness and safety that they deserve.

Rescue Dogs and Cats The Netherlands was founded in 2020 by Julija and Ramun

e, two animal lovers who always had a desire to help homeless animals. The initiative quickly grew to a group of more than 20 people working voluntarily in re-homing rescues from Lithuania to The Netherlands, Belgium and some other countries. In Lithuania the number of abandoned dogs and cats is very large. There are plenty of shelters that are doing a great job to help them to survive and doing their best to find them home. We truly feel heartbroken knowing that there are so many animals suffering from different sorts of abuse and neglect. Therefore, this project is our way to contribute to the wellbeing of rescue dogs and cats. The goal of this website is to tell you more about dogs and cats in need and to facilitate their adoption and rehoming to The Netherlands. If you are looking to adopt, you will have to fill out the application form, your answers are an important part of helping us to be sure that the pet is a good match for you, your family and your lifestyle. We will provide you with all the information about the pet, his or her life story, character, behavior and other things you need to know. 🐾😿 "Why? What did I do wrong? What for?" asks Albinas... He is soft, cozy, sweet, and constantly seeking human attention and closeness...
We are asking ourselves the same questions... It breaks our hearts 💔 and tears well up in our eyes💧... Albinas was found in the corner of some yard, weak, miserable and tired. Yet, the moment a woman noticed and called him, he struggled to stand up just to cuddle with her...
He's definitely a former house cat, neutered and well-behaved. How long has he been out there? Why? How did he end up where he did ??? We really want these questions to disappear from Albinas's gaze as soon as possible, and most importantly—from his soul 🤍. And for that, he urgently needs a warm, loving home 💝🏠!

Meet Laimutis. He is made of love, loyalty, and complete trust in humans. 🐶❤🐾
Laimutis ended up in the shelter because he was abandoned💔 His owner sold the house and walked away, leaving little Laimutis behind. Alone, like old unwanted furniture, that was no longer worth taking. How can someone just close the door and walk away, knowing that they are leaving a sweet, tiny, helpless dog behind, who will be waiting for his person to come back? How can someone betray their pet, who loved them more than anything in the world?😢 Laimutis doesn’t understand why he was left alone and neither do we. But that doesn't matter much anyway. Now Laimutis is loved by shelter volunteers, safe and happy. All he is missing now is a second chance at a happy life.
Laimutis was born in 2017. He is small, only weighing 6 kilograms. Friendly, gentle and an incredibly sweet, quiet little doggy, whose only wish is still to be loved.🥰 Even after everything he has been through, he still loves people. Say hello to Apa!🙋‍♀️🐾
Apa is a small (around 9 kg weight) female dog with a lighter-colored coat, born around 2017. She arrived to the shelter together with her brother, who has been adopted and now it's Apa's turn to find a home of her own🫶
They were left by their owners locked inside an apartment for an entire week, without food or water. When shelter staff came to rescue them, Apa was terrified - frozen in fear, trembling, with eyes full of panic. It seemed as if the world flipped upside-down for her.
But today, we can celebrate small miracles❤ Apa is slowly recovering: every day she becomes a little braver, looks around with more curiosity, lifts her little head more often, and begins to believe that a gentle voice or an outstretched hand does not mean pain😊 She is still cautious, but her heart is gradually opening up. She is still shy, but gentle and affectionate. Apa is sweet-natured, allows herself to be picked up and carried, shows no signs of aggression, and does not bark. Apa is friendly with other dogs. When taken for walks, she does not react to other dogs, and shelter staff also believe that she could get along well with cats🐾 When it comes to interacting with people, Apa is a little shy at first, but allows everyone to approach her. There is no difference between shelter staff and visitors - she is open to everyone, just a little timid at first. In a home environment she would surely gain much more confidence and become an incredibly sweet and affectionate companion.🤩🐶🐾

🐾 Meet Amsius – A People Lover! 🐾

Amsius loves people, enjoys attention, and likes being petted! 💕 He used to live indoors and was completely house-trained. He is friendly with all people without exception. 🥰

He knows how to walk on a leash. Amsius visited a grooming salon 🐶✨ He behaved obediently there — slightly restless when his tail and paws were handled, but he did not show aggression.

While generally affectionate and well-behaved with humans, he may need guidance, structure, and careful management around food or high-value situations, as well as gradual socialization regarding other dogs.
