Rehoming Lithuanian shelter pets into homes in the Netherlands - to find kindness, love and safety.

Rescue Dogs and Cats The Netherlands is run entirely through volunteer work. Based in the Netherlands, we work in collaboration with several animal shelters in Lithuania, helping to adopt and rehome rescue dogs and cats to the Netherlands and allowing them to experience the love, kindness and safety that they deserve.

Rescue Dogs and Cats The Netherlands was founded in 2020 by Julija and Ramun

e, two animal lovers who always had a desire to help homeless animals. The initiative quickly grew to a group of more than 20 people working voluntarily in re-homing rescues from Lithuania to The Netherlands, Belgium and some other countries. In Lithuania the number of abandoned dogs and cats is very large. There are plenty of shelters that are doing a great job to help them to survive and doing their best to find them home. We truly feel heartbroken knowing that there are so many animals suffering from different sorts of abuse and neglect. Therefore, this project is our way to contribute to the wellbeing of rescue dogs and cats. The goal of this website is to tell you more about dogs and cats in need and to facilitate their adoption and rehoming to The Netherlands. If you are looking to adopt, you will have to fill out the application form, your answers are an important part of helping us to be sure that the pet is a good match for you, your family and your lifestyle. We will provide you with all the information about the pet, his or her life story, character, behavior and other things you need to know. Ciupkis, 7 year old resident of the shelter. He stayed at the shelter for almost 2 years. We believe there’s hope he won’t spend the rest of his life here 🙏🏻
Ciupkis is a textbook perfect cat - beautiful tabby coat, green eyes, enjoys lounging in the sun and looooves cuddling up next to his human. Would you like to be that person? 🥰
Ciupkis is in a good health, but tests shown he’s FIV positive, so he can either be only pet or live with other FIV positive kitty. Also, he has to be on special urinary diet. That’s it! Not that much to ask for unconditional love and unlimited cuddles 😍

As temperatures rise, it's only natural to open windows and let the fresh breeze in. ☀️ But for cat owners, this simple pleasure can quickly turn into a dangerous situation. Even the calmest feline can act in an instant if something like a bird or an insect catches their eye. Your kitty will go after it and might fall out the window. In the best case scenario, the cat won't get hurt, or the consequences could be more severe resulting in serious or even fatal injuries. 😢

❗️Windows that open inwards with a ''tilt and turn'' opening mechanism are a huge hazard. This kind of window opening creates a triangular gap and when a cat tries to climb out it and slips, the cat gets wedged in and can't escape. This can cause serious damage to their internal organs, spine, and is a very common cause of death. 😢

Luckily there are simple measures that you can take to avoid this:

* install well-fitted and secure window screens, that can't be pushed or clawed out by your cat;
for a ''tilt and turn'' windows you can find special protective inserts

* if you want to discourage your cat from spending time on the widow sill altogether, you can lay a double-sided tape or aluminium foil on it

* NEVER leave open windows when you are not at home.

When it comes to your cat's safety, you can never be too safe.🐱❤️🐾

Rene is a gentle, shy cat who came to us from a garden community, bringing her kittens with her. Now that her little ones have found homes, it's Rene’s turn! 🙏

She’s about 4 years old, quiet, and observant — always watching the world around her. While she isn’t ready for cuddles just yet, she shows a kind and friendly nature. In the right home, with patience and understanding, Rene will surely come out of her shell.

Looking for a bold and curious pup to brighten your life? 🐾 Meet Fela – the most adventurous of her siblings and a true little explorer! 🌟

Fela is full of life and confidence – the first to try new things and always eager to discover the world around her. She walks well on a leash, climbs stairs with ease, and pays close attention to her person during walks. If you stop, she stops too – always in sync and ready to connect. 🐕‍🦺

This brave girl loves cuddles and enjoys being close to people. She’s friendly with strangers, children, and most other dogs. Indoors, she’s still learning where and when to do her business, so a little patience and consistency will go a long way. 🐾

Fela has also met cats – she showed no aggression, only a bit of uncertainty at first. But after spending time in a room full of cats, her curiosity took over, and she began to explore calmly. 🐱

She has a sweet sister named Fija, who is also looking for a home – and while they can be adopted separately, they’d be thrilled to stay together! 🐶❤️🐶

Meet Philip – your new best friend! 🐶💛

Philip arrived at the shelter in October, and since then, he’s been quietly winning hearts with his sweet, curious nature. He’s fully vaccinated, chipped, and sterilized – now all he’s missing is a forever home to call his own. 🏡✨

He’s gentle and friendly with adults and kids alike, making him a perfect match for a loving home. While the outside world is still a bit of a mystery when it comes to potty habits, Philip is a fast learner who’s already a pro on the leash and climbs stairs like a champ! 🐾🎖️

He gets along well with some other dogs—especially the ladies—but is still a little nervous around male dogs.
As for cats? No aggression, just curious sniffs and respectful interest. 🐱👃

Meet Salty – a perfect playmate for kids, adults, and cats alike! 🐾👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🐱
Weight: 12.5 kg ⚖️ | Height: 40 cm 📏 | Age: Turning 1 in July 🎂

Despite his name meaning “Salty”, Salty couldn’t be more the opposite – this cheerful, affectionate pup is full of love, energy, and sunshine. 🌞💛

He arrived at the shelter last September with a badly injured back leg. 💔 After surgery and a metal plate to repair his heel, Salty made an incredible recovery. 🛠️🐶 His leg is now slightly shorter, and he sometimes lifts it while walking – but when he’s running, it’s all four paws go! 🚀 Nothing holds this boy back. 💪

Salty is vaccinated 💉 and chipped 🔍 (too young for sterilization just yet) and packed with puppy joy. 🐕🎉 His days are full of toys 🧸, playful zoomies 💨, and wrestling matches with his doggy friends. 🐕‍🦺🐾 At home, he’ll be your little explorer – sniffing every corner 🕵️‍♂️, curiously following you around 🚶‍♀️🐶, and adding life to every room. 🏡✨

He’s wonderfully friendly with dogs 🐶, kids 👧🧒, and adults 👨‍🦳👩‍🦰, and while still learning the ropes of potty training 🚽, he already walks beautifully on a leash 🦮 and masters stairs like a champ. 🏆

As for cats? 🐈 Salty doesn’t chase or bark – he gently sniffs and follows 👃👣, showing all signs he could become a cat’s playful buddy with the right intro. 🐾💕

Tone is a beautiful calico cat, about 3 years old, who came to the shelter’s care after living in a factory area.

She’s a quiet and cautious soul, still learning to trust people. Tone watches everything around her with curiosity, but if approached too fast, she will hide. Tone still needs to learn that people can love and care. With time, patience, and a gentle environment, this beautiful girl will feel safe and settle in.

Tone gets along well with other cats, and would do best in a calm home where she can blossom at her own pace.
