Real K-9 Training is a small, family-owned dog training operation located at Miri, Sarawak, East Malaysia. Owner and Trainer, Robin Gan, trained and certified as Police K-9 Instructor, Professional Obedience and Behavior Modification at North State K-9 Academy, North Carolina in July 2007. His area of expertise is dealing with working dogs in Protection Work, Patrol, Man Trailing, Explosives and Narcotics Detection. Certified and attended Police K-9 Decoy seminar in association of National Tactical Police Dog Association (NTPDA), Inc at Graham NC. Trained under one of the most recognized leader in police k9 training and protection sport training in the United States , Girard (Jerry) Bradshaw, who is also the Co-founder and Director of Protection Sport Association (PSA) and National Tactical Police Department Association (NTPDA), United States of America. Prior to this, he was trained under the guidance of David Remnant, former K-9 Demo Team Leader and instructor in Royal Air Force, UK, Instructor and Consultant of Dog Detectives, UK based in Malaysia. To date, he is a professional member of International Association of Canine Professional (IACP) and also Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT).

Enzo is back for boarding, and we took the opportunity to run through his obedience (OB) training. He did a great job and performed with flying colors!

Kudos to Enzo’s owner for keeping up with his training at home. Consistency makes all the difference in maintaining good obedience!

Competition may test the skill; while everyday life tests its usefulness.

The goal is not simply to teach a dog to look at you. It is to teach the dog to remain connected with you, even when the environment offers something more interesting.

A walk should be more than a release of energy. It should be an opportunity to build communication, engagement and self-control.

Self-control means teaching a dog to manage its impulses instead of reacting to everything it sees, hears or smells.

It doesn't mean suppressing the dog's natural instincts. It means teaching the dog how to respond appropriately, even when something exciting or distracting is happening.

All dogs are different and learn at different rates. Some learn quickly and some slowly depending on many factors including what you are attempting to teach them

STOP EYEBALLING OR GIVING EYE CONTACT YOUR DOG

Reno conducted a downwind search for a dropped coin. Following an initial false indication, he continued working the scent plume followed the area of stronger scent concentration and independently located the source. Did a head turn finally and pointed at the source.

The exercise emphasized withholding reinforcement for premature indications, monitoring the dog’s behavior, avoiding eye contact or “eyeballing” him that could give him the wrong signals, and allowing independent problem solving without handler guidance.

Afternoon training took place at approximately 6:00 p.m, when temperatures had decreased to approximately 32°C. Level of difficulty: 2/10
