What is FELINE PANLEUKOPENIA?

🐾 Feline Panleukopenia Virus (FPV) 🐾
A serious and highly contagious disease in cats

📌 Description:
Feline Panleukopenia, also known as “feline distemper,” is caused by a parvovirus that attacks rapidly dividing cells, especially in the intestines, bone marrow, and developing fetus. It mainly affects kittens and unvaccinated cats and can be life-threatening.

⚠️ Symptoms:
• Sudden high fever
• Loss of appetite
• Vomiting and severe diarrhea (sometimes bloody)
• Extreme weakness and dehydration
• Depression and hiding behavior
• Low white blood cell count (leading to weak immunity)

💊 Treatment:
There is no specific cure for FPV, but supportive care can save lives:
• Intensive fluid therapy (to prevent dehydration)
• Anti-vomiting and anti-diarrheal medications
• Antibiotics (to prevent secondary infections)
• Nutritional support and hospitalization in severe cases

🛡️ Prevention:
• Vaccination is the most effective protection
• Keep kittens indoors and away from infected animals
• Disinfect environments (virus is very resistant)
• Isolate infected cats immediately
• Maintain good hygiene and regular vet checkups
