WECare Worldwide

WECare Worldwide WECare Worldwide is a UK Registered Charity (reg no. 1162386) set up by veterinary surgeons to help.
(219)

As vets, we endeavour to provide the very best standard of care for all of our patients. Thing is, we have now acquired 3 million more so we need your help! WECare Worldwide is an organisation set up by UK volunteers in Newcastle upon Tyne, to give free veterinary care to animals in need worldwide. Ultimately, WECare Worldwide plan to extend veterinary services around the globe but, right now, we

are concentrating on tacking the issues with the street dog population in Sri Lanka, where we have witnessed some of the worst cases we have ever seen. It is estimated that there are up to 3 million street dogs in Sri Lanka. WECare Worldwide are in the process of carrying out a 5 year plan, in which we will look to help eliminate rabies in the country and also humanely reduce the numbers of unwanted street dogs. We also provide top level treatment for the many sick and injured animals on the island, including those affected by maggot wounds, fractured bones and hot water burns, which are very common. We provide all of our expertise for free 24/7, 365 days a year but we really need help with the cost of medicines and equipment which, we can assure you, are most definitely not free!! Please help us to make monumental changes to the lives of these animals. You can find out more about the charity on our website or by contacting the committee at [email protected]

You can donate in person at any Westway, Value Vets or Easyvets branch by cash or card. You can also donate online at http://wecareworldwide.org.uk/donate/

💛🙏🏼HELP FOR HIRI 🙏🏼💛

Hiri (the dog) was spotted in Hiriketiya (the village- see what we’ve done there?! 😏) wandering around with a pretty horrendously-broken jaw 😱😱

We were initally pretty convinced he’d eaten a hakapatas which is a small bomb encased in food that is sometimes put down to maim wild boar (for eating 😔). Street dogs often end up being the victims of these but for whoever stumbles across them- dogs, boars, elephants and even kids- it’s a brutally painful and entirely cruel act that causes an insane amount of suffering. However, due to the lack of soft tissue trauma, we now suspect it is more likely to be the result of a road traffic accident. Either way- not a good time for poor old Hiri 😥 Or for us mugs who have to try and fix it 😬

We’ve got him at the hospital now- thank goodness- and are assessing what to do next. It’s quite a challenging injury with lots of considerations but, in the meantime, he is painfree and resting like he hasn’t slept in a week.

It’s going to take a wee while in terms of recovery, and that’s if we can even manage it (we’re hopeful but never want to jinx it 🫠). Any help at all with his costs would be much appreciated 💛

A big fat juicy thank you from our Screamer-in-Chief, Butter 💛 We are overwhelmed by the support you showed this little gremlin, and we couldn’t be more grateful 🫶🏼 It’s been a rough start to life for this six-week-old chaos bean — but thanks to you lot, he’s got a fighting chance. So here he is: confused, adorable, and making emotional support humans of us all 🤪

Ricki is a much-loved little babe who was brought to us by her guardians after she was attacked by a wild boar 🥺If you think that sounds panful, you’d be correct — she had loads of puncture wounds, lacerations, and even fractured metatarsals, which resulted in a left hind leg amputation, so she was with us for a couple of months! And you know what? We’re not too sorry about that because she was the SWEETEST thing — as you can see we all gave (and received) a whole lotta love from Ricki 💘

We realised that we’ve been so busy flying around in this thing that we’ve not given you guys a proper tour yet — do forgive us! 😳We really can’t thank The Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust enough for believing in us and funding Sri Lanka’s first EVER tuk tuk ambulance, which has absolutely transformed the way we can respond to emergencies 🙏🏼

Without further ado, here’s to show you around…oh, and keep an eye out for part two ‘cos we’ve got more cool stuff to show you…👀

A wee update on Butter our brain injury pup 💛He’s fallen in love with our nurse Kat and kicks up a fuss until Kat carries him around in a makeshift papoose 🥺(And when we say ‘kicks up a fuss’, we actually mean ‘screams his head off’...😅). He’s obviously very young and confused, bless him — we’re keeping him comfortable and giving him the best care possible but we need your help to do that. We’ve only received one donation for him so far (😢) so we’d really appreciate any help towards his care 🫶🏼He’s a high maintenance boi!

❗AVOID SLIDES 2,3,7 IF YOU’RE SQUEAMISH❗

Buzz was brought to the door back in May with a reeeeeeeally nasty head/ear/neck wound that his guardians think was the result of a wild jungle cat attack 😮As you can see from the antibacterial blue spray, they tried managing the wound, but it just kept getting worse 😥This hefty wound required surgical closure and looooooots and lots of bandage changes (leaving Buzz looking like he’d just had a facelift a la Kris Jenner 😅). We had a few setbacks with Buzz somehow managing to get his bandages off and scratching the wound but we got there in the end!

Two months after he arrived and maaaaaaaany bandages later Buzz was finally ready to go home. (Now PLEASE stay away from those jungle cats, matey! 🫠)

If you’d like to help us help more cats like Buzz then head to the link in the comments to throw a little donation our way 🙏🏼 LOVE YA!

There's never been a better reason to sign up for EasyFundraising — each new supporter gives us an extra chance of winning a £500 donation! (That could buy us 50 distemper vaccines, 100 rabies vaccines, or help us spay 12 dogs!) If you're not already in the know, EasyFundraising is an AMAZING initiative that gives us a portion of your spend (at NO extra cost to you 💅🏼) every time you shop online at participating retailers. And believe us when we say there are LOADS! We all use it ourselves and it's mad how quickly the donations add up! 😲 Our supporters have raised £732.66 already for us this year, for buying stuff they were going to buy anyway — wild!!

If that's not enough you'll also be in with the chance of winning a £100 Amazon voucher that's all for YOU!

So what are you waiting for? Sign up today and let us know if you did in the comments so we can thank you 🫶🏼

Butter was admitted yesterday with a traumatic brain injury after being hit by a motorbike 😲Apparently he was able to get up and wak across the road, but then he collapsed.

He was in a pretty bad way yesterday on admit and wasn’t very responsive, except for lots of confused screams, so we got him comfy and on lots of pain relief. Thankfully, this morning he was a lot better and even stood up to greet nurse Kat when he saw her 😭He’s also eating well, which is always a good sign. We were able to take X-rays today, which showed a potential jaw fracture but he’s still able to open his jaw, so that’s a relief. Butter’s only six weeks old so this really isn’t the best start in life 😔

He’s not totally out of the woods yet but we’re giving him lots of love and care so please keep him in your thoughts and we’ll keep you updated! And if you’d like to donate towards this cutie’s care then we would be so so grateful 🙏🏼

"What's the point of donating?"

Look, we get it — with an estimated 10 million charities in the world, it can be hard to know who to give your hard-earned cash to. (Especially when you hear reports of big charity CEOs earning larger salaries than you ever will...🫠) That's the beauty of donating to smaller charities like WECare; you can see EXACTLY where your money's going. We're not wasting precious pennies on costly marketing campaigns, a swanky head office, or schmoozing functions for celebrities (LOL, we wish 😂). We're more likely to be cobbling our £££ together for vaccines, dog food, and drugs (the legal, veterinary kind, obvs 😅).

People constantly apologise to us about how 'small' their donation is, which breaks our hearts — EVERY DONATION COUNTS. No matter how small! Just £3 covers a hospital patient's meals for the day — nutritious food is essential for healing, so please know that your £3 is making a HUGE difference.

We also LOVE monthly donations, no matter how small! Of course, we'll never say no to a one-off donation but recurring donations allow us to budget and make plans for the future, allowing us to focus more on caring for the dogs than having to constantly scrounge for money. Plus, donating monthly means you get to feel part of the team, knowing that you're making a tangible difference to the lives of Sri Lanka's street dogs, day in, day out. And for that, we can't thank you enough 🫶🏼

💫SHERBET UPDATE💫

Sorry, but how is this the same dog that arrived two and a half weeks ago with a maggot-filled noggin?? As you can see, Sherbet’s looking great, he’s growing at the speed of light, and he’s a much happier boy than he was when we first met 🥹Thank you to everyone who donated, Sherbet sends his love and appreciation 🫶🏼
