Today, Farmer's Choice Limited, in partnership with the State Department for Livestock Development, hosted the Nyeri County Sensitization Forum on the National Pig Value Chain, bringing together stakeholders from the county government, retail and distribution sectors, and the farming community to advance the implementation of Kenya’s National Pig Value Chain Development Strategy (2025-2029) and strengthen collaboration across the sector.
The forum was graced by the County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture and Aquaculture Development, Wachihi Muturi, and led by Mr Laban Kabiru, General Manager, Farmer’s Choice Limited.
The engagement focused on creating awareness of the National Pig Value Chain Development Strategy and its role in enhancing food and nutrition security, strengthening farmer livelihoods, creating employment opportunities, and driving sustainable livestock commercialization.
Discussions highlighted the need for coordinated action across the value chain to address sector challenges and unlock growth opportunities.
Beyond policy sensitization, the forum prioritized capacity building by training focal persons to support ongoing extension services and farmer outreach at the county level.
The forum further highlighted the role of pork in nutrition and food security, while emphasizing the importance of food safety, traceability, quality assurance, and market development to build consumer confidence and support industry growth.
Through continued collaboration with county governments and industry stakeholders, we remain committed to building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable livestock systems that create value from farm to table.
