It’s summer holidays for children so this month we are working with Milo & Zoe’s human sisters :)

Including kids in training can help them understand their dogs better and take some load off parents in taking care of the doggos!

Worked with Disha and her doll- Queen Elizabeth back in 2020

Met them again after 5 years and it’s so heartwarming to watch how their relationship has bloomed into love, understanding and joyful companionship 😇

Not only does Elizabeth respond happily to Disha, but she also feels comfortable expressing her own joy and excitement while doing so..
And that’s what matters long term

Recall is tricky
And I work on it with my dogs everyday!
It requires patience, trust and a base of spending a lot of happy times with your dog..

Your dog should know you have their best interest at heart and should WANT to come to you..

Even as someone working with dogs for years i know recall with a Beagle is one of the trickiest things ever 🐶

When we are working with a reactive dog (guard dog) we first look at all of the behaviours that the family calls reactive and then also understand the dogs perspective- whether the behaviour is normal for the breed, whether the dog has appropriate exercise and sleep schedules and whether the ‘reactivity’ is coming in the way of the dog and community living a healthy lifestyle

In Rocky’s case, it’s absolutely normal for an adult GSD to take time to befriend new people and we will work towards building a system through which the family can slowly get him acquainted with new staff at home

When it comes to his barking and lunging during walks, we will do a mix of setting up a good exercise routine and walk training with treats to shift his focus from the world outside to the handler

The L.E.G.S course by Kim Brophey gave me a lot of insight into how dogs as a specie has evolved over centuries and what factors shape their behaviour.
All the great information and insight from that course coupled with having my own dogs to experiment with and being in a space where i could afford to have my dogs off leash helped me learn so much more about interactions that happen between dogs on a daily basis

Now, walk time with my dogs is as mentally stimulating for me as them.. I’m learning so much about the why dogs growl,bark,chase, and how to peace things out when it happens :)

Forever grateful for all the mad dog lovers out there who are constantly working towards understanding dogs and sharing the information for all of us to get better at understanding and raising our dogs :)
