Tetras don’t have a true stomach in any meaningful sense. Food goes almost straight into the intestine, which is why they graze more or less constantly in the wild — picking at small invertebrates and plant matter all day rather than eating meals. 🐟
A once-a-day feeding schedule inverts that. One heavy pinch, gone in thirty seconds, then twelve hours of nothing. The fish still searching the substrate ten minutes later isn’t being greedy. It’s a gut designed for a steady trickle, running empty.
If that’s your setup, the fix is simple — same daily amount, split into two or three smaller feeds 👇
🔹 Less sitting in the gut at once — better absorption, less bloating risk.
🔹 Less hitting the substrate uneaten — less ammonia, cleaner water.
🔹 Calmer, more active fish — steady energy instead of a spike and a crash.
Zewa Tetra Pellets F2 — 0.4–0.6mm, slow-sinking, designed to stay in the mid-water column where tetras actually feed. 🎯

“Goldfish have a 3-second memory” - we’ve all heard it. Turns out, it’s completely wrong.

Research shows goldfish can remember things for MONTHS. They’ve been trained to respond to sounds, navigate mazes, and even tell shapes apart. One study found they recalled learned behaviors up to five months later.

Your fish are smarter than you think. Maybe it’s time their food was, too.

Save this for the next time someone drops this myth at a party.

5 years of Zewa 🐠🎉

Five years ago, we set out to make fish feed that actually does right by your fish. Today, we’re a team spread across 4 states who’ve never needed a shared office to share the same mission.

Some of us cut the cake together (with an aquarium watching over us, naturally 🐟). Others celebrated from home with their own slice. Different cities, same cake-shaped smile.

Remote by design. Driven by passion. 💛
Thank you to every hobbyist, breeder, and aquarist who’s trusted us with their tanks. Here’s to many more years of healthier fish and happier keepers.

The first thing most people learn about guppies is that they breed easily. The second thing, usually too late, is that you can’t switch it off. 🔄
A female stores s***m after a single mating and uses it to fertilise successive broods for months. Rehoming the male changes nothing — she may already be carrying up to six broods’ worth.
🐟 Twenty to sixty fry, roughly every twenty-eight days.
The fish paying for this is the female. Continuous pregnancy with no recovery window shows up as a thin body behind the head, faded colour and a noticeably shorter life than she should have had.

Two things help 👇
🔹 Stock one male to two or three females, so no single female takes all the pursuit.
🔹 Plant densely — a moss wall or a thicket of stems gives her somewhere to rest out of sight, which matters more than most people expect. 🌿
Then feed for it. A female producing a brood a month is running a genuine metabolic load, and a cheap flake won’t cover it. 🍽️

💾 Save this if you keep guppies. Tag someone who started with three and now has thirty 😅

Bettas are anabantoids. They have a labyrinth organ above the gills - a folded, heavily vascularised structure that lets them take oxygen straight from the air. 🫁
This isn’t an emergency backup. It’s how they get a real share of their oxygen, and it’s why a betta held under a sealed lid or a dense mat of surface plants will suffocate in water that tests perfectly fine.
Three things follow from it, and most betta setups get at least one wrong 👇
🔹 Leave an air gap. Don’t fill to the rim, and keep a clear path to the surface.
🔹 Keep the water still and warm. 24–28°C, gentle flow. Bettas evolved in slow, shallow water - a strong filter output means a fish that spends all day fighting the current instead of resting.
🔹 Feed at the top. That upturned terminal mouth is built for taking food from the surface. Anything that drops straight to the substrate is food your betta never sees.
💾 Save this if you’re setting up a betta tank.
