Our nebulizer recently broke down as we were treating a horse with COPD. Thankfully, the generous team at Flexineb were on hand to help. They very kindly donated a new control unit and battery to LHPR. We are now back up and running.

Thank you Flexineb ❤️

⚠️ ANIMAL WELFARE ALERT ⚠️

💧With the warm weather continuing, it is vital that ALL animals have access to FRESH COOL drinking water. This should be in the form of buckets, automatic drinkers bowls or a good quality natural stream (equines/cattle etc). 💧

We recommend automatic drinkers are checked daily to ensure they are refilling and cleaned to ensure no grim/algae is present.

🐴 Equines need access to shade or shelter. If shelter is not available, consider putting a UV rug/fly sheet on your horse.

● Consider erecting a temporary structure such as a gazebo if you dont have any shaded areas. This might not be practical for every horse and not every horse might tolerate it, but its worth a try.

● AVOID riding/exercising horses after 10am and before 7pm. This is when the sun is at its hottest.

● SULKY racing - report all incidents to An Garda Síochána. Dial 999 in an emergency. Gardaí are authorised officers under all animal welfare legislation (COHA/AHWA)

If your horse isn't drinking as much as they should, consider soaking their feed so they get water that way.

🐕 Dogs or any small animal should NEVER be locked in a car. If you notice a dog locked in a hot car, dial 999. Await further instructions. 🚔

If you come across an equine with no water or showing signs of heat distress, call the following agencies and groups.

●NSPCA: 0818 515 515
●Department of Agriculture: 01 607 2379
●Local Garda Station
●999 in an emergency. Staff at Garda control rooms are in a position to log calls under Animal Welfare Legislation.

You can also contact the LHPR Emergency Equine Welfare Helpline on 0469450512.

IF WE ARE CALLED TO ANIMALS WITH OUT WATER WE WILL TAKE ACTION, WE WILL WORK WITH GARDAI AND YOUR ANIMALS WILL BE SEIZED. ZERO CHANCES.

Let's enjoy the weather and STAY SAFE. 🌞

Sunday marked the end of National Volunteering Week 2026 and we celebrated in style.

We threw a volunteer appreciation gathering for our wonderful and committed volunteers. Each volunteer was allowed to bring some guests, to proudly show off what they do on a daily basis.

Volunteers are at the core of what we do. Its very very simple, no volunteers, no LHPR.

The craic was most certainly had and we hope our volunteers enjoyed their day.

Thanks to the following businesses and companies for sponsoring the event. Sponsorship ensured, main funding didn't have to be spent.

● Panda Waste
● NSC (Navan Strength Collective Gym)
● The Bare Food Company, Drogheda
● Dunnes Stores (Corporate Sales)
● Supervalu, Johnstown Navan
● Jump Around Bouncing Castles
● Fine Finish Coatings.ie
● Stauntons Pharmacy, Churchill Navan

Thanks again to our fabulous volunteers! ❤️

We couldn't let National Volunteer Week pass us by without sharing the story of where LHPR began.

It all started when a 14 year old boy decided he wanted to make a difference to equine welfare in Ireland. With a heart of gold, a horse in need, and little more than pure determination in the early days, Joseph set out with one goal in mind - to make a lasting change to horse welfare in Ireland.

Here is Joseph's story 💙
