Well here is Owly McOwlFace earlier today, under anaesthesia.We had to knock him out to x-ray his wing to see how the repair was going...Great news it's going very well.
We now have a nice callous so that means the bone is knitting back together really well.

As part of his care here in the clinic, he gets daily physiotherapy. This is to prevent contraction or tightening of his muscles due to the wing support bandage he still wears and hopefully will allow him to fly free again!

Not the first bird I have treated with herbs but the most beautiful I think. I have been injecting the tinctures into his mice and he doesnt seem to mind.. but he does get a little sleepy afterwards.. not sure if its the herbs or the full crop!

Take a look at this beautiful Barn Owl, that was brought into us with a broken wing. Ray repaired the wing with a pin and he is doing really well! We took this sneaky shot while he was snoozing earlier today. Isn't he absolutley beautiful?

We know he is male because his chest and flanks are pure white. (Females have little black spots)
Barn owls have been in dramatic decline in recent years,estimates suggesting we have lost 50% of these beautiful birds over the last 25 years. Kerry is one of the few counties where numbers are holding up. The new stretch of the bypass cuts through an area of particularly high density and as a result there have been many killed on that stretch of road.

They are hoping to gather enough information to allow them to formulate a plan to reduce the impact of this and other roads where large numbers of wildlife are killed.

Its that time of year again!!

in a recent survey 2 out of 3 UK vets treated at least 1 dog poisoned by chocolate last Easter! Every year we stress the dangers posed by chocolate to pets.. cats are even more susceptible than dogs but luckily dont have as much of a sweet tooth, and still the cases roll in. I suppose the lesson is never underestimate a dogs determination and guile when it comes to food and keep all chocolate well out of their reach!

Big Congratulations to Jenny and Tiga who won the Galen Extraordinary Dog of the Year Award at Crufts. Jenny and Tiga track lost dogs and have so far found and reunited over 60 missing dogs. sorry its been so quiet on here for the last 6 months. As many of you know a move to the UK last year didnt go as we planned and resulted in the clinic requiring all of my time. we are only just getting things reorganised and want to say a big thank you to all of you for your patience during what has been a very stressful period. having decided at the last minute to take a stand at Crufts we will be in our usual spot, Hall 3 stand 7b. Special offers, identify the herb competition and free herbal shots so make sure you come along. in what seems like a neverending winter this poster reminds me of last summer and gives some hope of sunnier times to come.
