Today is World Animal Vaccination Day – 20 April 2025

As infectious animal diseases continue to rise across Europe, the need for a shift toward proactive prevention is more urgent than ever. In a joint call to action, AnimalhealthEurope, FECAVA, and FVE urge the EU to develop clearer policies on animal vaccination.

Vaccination is a proven tool in disease prevention—protecting animal health, public health, and the wider economy. Yet, current policies often rely on reactive measures rather than long-term, sustainable solutions.

Danny Holmes, FECAVA President, emphasized:

“World Animal Vaccination Day has become an important annual reminder of one of the most important acts veterinarians perform. Pet parents need us to push the message of vaccination as a method of disease control to keep both their pets and families healthy. Non-factual social media posts and other fake news is widely blamed for falling human vaccination rates, so celebrating protecting our patients has never been more important.”
