🍂🐾 Autumn Walkies Ready! 🐾🍂

Crisp leaves, cooler air – autumn walks are some of the best! But don’t forget a few extra steps to keep your dog safe and comfy this season:

🧥 Wrap up warm – a cosy jacket helps keep the chill off.
✨ Be seen – shorter days mean darker walks. High-vis leads, jackets, or light-up collars make you both more visible.
🚶‍♂️ Stay safe outdoors – keep an eye out for slippery leaves, acorns, and conkers, which can be hazardous to dogs.
💡 Plan for darker evenings – choose well-lit routes or bring a torch so you and your pup can enjoy the adventure.

Autumn adventures are even better when your four-legged friend is snug and safe! 🍁🐕

🍁 September Pet Tips from the Vet 🐾

1. Keep an eye on weight 🥗: Cooler days can mean less activity—adjust meals & treats accordingly!
2. Flea & tick check 🕷️: Early autumn ticks are still around—prevention is key.
3. Vaccines up to date 💉: Feel free to give us a call if you’re unsure.
4. Cozy bedding 🛏️: Cooler nights = comfy beds for happy joints.
5. Dental care 😁: Post-summer treats are great, but don’t forget teeth brushing or a check-up.
6. Monitor lumps & bumps 🔍: Spot any changes early—just like our brave little patient pup!
7. Safe walks 🌙: Shorter days? Use reflective gear & stick to well-lit routes.

Give a pet a home ❤️

This week on Give a pet a home with Kilcoole Vets we speak to Sally from K.W.W.S.P.C.A. To try and find a loving home for Mark 🐾 🏡 ❤️

Mark is a 7 month old healthy Collie in great condition and has endless energy. A very friendly boy, Mark wants to be out investigating this world and just loves been taken for a walk. He’s still a bit strong on the lead so is not suitable for a child-handler. Collie’s are high-energy dogs so Mark will need a home where he gets plenty of exercise and stimulation. A home with a large amount of enclosed outdoor space is really essential for him. He is a sweet boy and still a puppy so will be a great family pet.

Mark has been neutered, is microchipped 972274001687127, has been vaccinated and has received the usual preventative flea/worm treatments.

If you have an interest in adopting Mark, please click on the following link to complete the ‘Expression of Interest Form’ and return the completed form to [email protected]

If you have any difficulties accessing or completing the form, please call 087-6887136 or email [email protected]. There is more detailed information about how our adoption process works on our Adoption Process page. There is an adoption fee of €250 when a dog is adopted to help cover some of our veterinary and other costs. A dog licence and collar tag need to be purchased before adoption and a home check will be organised.

🔷Meet The Pets At Kilcoole Vets 🔷

✨ How handsome is Dougal?! ✨

This gorgeous boy is a 5-year-old Yorkie cross who popped in recently for his annual vaccination. Dougal is a proud member of our Pet Health Club, which means his routine preventative care is all taken care of — plus he gets lots of extra cuddles and fuss when he visits! 🐾💉

We always love seeing this little gent and his fabulous tartan harness. Looking sharp, Dougal! 👏

Our Story

Kilcoole Vets is a specialised small animal veterinary practice. The clinic opened at the beginning of March 2009. Kilcoole Vets is owned and run by veterinary surgeon Gail Nic Eoghain and veterinary nurse/behaviourist Shane Mc Dermott. Both had worked in veterinary practice for over ten years before establishing their own clinic. As lifelong pet owners themselves they share a vision of a companion animal hospital providing exemplary patient care and client service. Kilcoole Vets strives to embody that vision. After inspection by the Veterinary Council of Ireland, the premises have been accredited as a Registered Veterinary Hospital. Under the practice accreditation scheme this is the highest level attainable. The practice is located in the Whitethorn Centre in Kilcoole village (beside Tesco) and has ample free parking on its doorstep. On entering their bright and spacious reception and waiting area you will be welcomed by friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. To accommodate their clients’ busy schedules, Kilcoole Vets is open 7 days a week including bank holidays and offers convenient opening hours with early to late hours. A dedicated emergency service is provided 24/7 and 365 days outside of those hours. A comprehensive range of health care services are provided under one roof for all small animals including dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, small furry pets, birds and reptiles. Kilcoole Vets tailors a health care programme for each pet, through every stage of their life.

They also have Pet Health Plans available to save pet owners money and spread the costs of their pet’s preventative health care needs. Finance options are available on products and for veterinary services/treatments.
