Hi All. A client sent us in a message about a kitten she wants to re-home. If anyone is interested then please contact 025 33060

This sweet young male cat was found emaciated on a rural road—but with lots of care, he’s now thriving and ready for adoption! He’s around 8 months old, fully vaccinated, wormed, neutered, and microchipped, and has gone from just 1.7kg to a healthy 3.6kg.

He’s litter trained, playful, and settling well into indoor life. His fur is still slightly stained from his rough start, but that’s improving and will fade with time.

He’s a friendly, social cat who loves to follow people and the resident cat around for company and play. While he adores her, she isn’t quite as interested in reciprocating—so he may do well with a more playful feline friend.

If you’re looking for a sweet, affectionate companion with lots of personality and a second-chance story, this little guy might be the perfect fit 💕🐾

Úna was out yesterday carrying out Lung Washes on a herd of coughing cows. This herd had a few cows treated for pneumonia recently and the farmer had treated all the cows with an anti-parasitic drug to treat for Lungworm only 1 week previously.
Sterile saline is flushed through a special tube into the cows' lungs and aspirated back into a syringe. This allows us to see what kind of bugs are living in the animals' lungs. The samples will be sent to the lab for further tests. In the 2nd and 3rd pictures, you can make out live lungworm. Finding live lungworm, only 1 week after a worm dose application, is quite worrying. Resistance to anti-parasitic drugs is on the rise, and we are seeing effectiveness take a hit. New rules are meant to come in this autumn to make anti-parasitic drugs Prescription Only Medicines. While there is significant backlash from certain areas of the industry, if we want to slow down the trend of increasing wormer resistance, then farmers will benefit from the advice they receive from their Vets.

Just a small selection of some of the fab patients we've had in with us over the past few months for procedures such as spaying, castrating, dentals, lump removals, stitch ups, xrays and work ups.
We're so lucky in our job to get to meet such a variety of adorable animals 😍 ❤️

All of us here in Duntahane Veterinary Clinic are deeply saddened by the passing of Michael Condon. Mike, with his brother Christy, started this practice in the 60s and he worked here up until his retirement only a few years ago. Michael was a brilliant vet and a wonderful person. He will be sadly missed by his friends and colleagues here in "Condon's". We extend our sympathies to the entire Condon family and especially Michael's wife Eleanor, his children Deirdre, Gerry, Gillian, and Bobby, and to his brothers Christy and Tom. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

The death has occurred of Michael Condon of Fermoy, Cork Ireland, on 24/04/2025. You can view the full death notice and add your condolences here.

The sick little lamb we treated earlier this week is flying it now and back with its mother. Lots of TLC. Hopefully, she will have lots of fun with the other lambs frolicking in the fields this spring.

We had a very sick 3 day old lamb visit us in the clinic this afternoon. After a clinical exam, our vet Úna decided to give him some IV fluids and antibiotics. A diagnosis of "Watery Mouth" was tentatively given due to the lambs depressed state and fluid rattling in his belly. This disease is caused by toxins released by the bacteria E-Coli and is a life threatening condition. Fingers crossed this little guy pulls through!

We were delighted to have Vadar, a 3 year old XL American Bulldog in with us this morning to be castrated. Although his breed gets a bad rap, he was a very sweet boy and was a pleasure to deal with.
It is important to remind all owners of XL Bully dogs that they need to get a certificate of exemption from the local authority to be allowed to own one from February 1st 2025. All XL bully dogs must be either castrated or spayed, and a letter to confirm their neutering status must be written by their attending vet to qualify for the certificate of exemption.
