Billie’s second Walk’N’Train session was all about building the kind of confidence that actually matters in real life. Not perfect obedience. Not “just ignore it.” Real, usable skills that help a dog feel safer and make better choices when life gets a bit much.

We started with mat work because for a lot of dogs, the hardest part isn’t the noise, the visitors, or the café. It’s learning how to settle when their brain is telling them to get busy, get excited, or keep reacting. Teaching Billie to go to her mat is teaching her how to switch off, regulate, and choose calm, even when things are happening around her.

That’s why this matters for dogs who become overwhelmed with visitors at the door, struggle to settle in public, or find other dogs just a little too exciting or too stressful. These aren’t “bad dog” moments. They’re usually communication moments. Your dog is telling you they need help.

And when we moved into Billie’s reactivity advocacy work, that was the goal: to support her through those sticky moments instead of pushing her through them. Because for a lot of dogs, the answer isn’t more pressure, it’s better understanding, clearer guidance, and giving them tools they can actually use.

There was also background noise in this session that would have unsettled Billie before. So instead of asking her to simply cope, we paused and played a pattern game to help her reset and feel safe again. That’s the kind of training that builds trust, confidence, and resilience over time.

These clips are taken straight from the training videos I sent to Billie’s owner, so they can keep learning and building these skills between sessions too.

If your dog is easily overaroused, struggles to settle, reacts to the world around them, or just seems like they’re always “on,” this is exactly the kind of work they need.

If you’d like support teaching your dog how to cope better in the real world, get in touch and let’s give your dog the help they need to feel calm & safe in the busy world. 🐾💚

Teaching a puppy a marker is one of the first things I focus on in training, because it gives them instant clarity. Instead of guessing what earned the reward, your puppy learns exactly what to repeat.

Boris is in his very first session here, learning the orientation game while building that communication from the start. This is how we set puppies up for success, with confidence, focus, and clear feedback.

If you have a puppy and want to make training easier from day one, start with the marker. SAY "YES!" -> FEED PUPPY TREAT -> REPEAT.

Watching your dog switch the second the lead goes on can feel… frustrating, confusing, and honestly a bit isolating.

Because you know your dog.
You’ve seen them be calm, social, even completely unbothered off lead.

So why does it all fall apart on a walk?

The truth is, on-lead reactivity isn’t about your dog being “bold” or “bad”, it’s often about how restricted, pressured, or exposed they feel in that moment.

The lead removes choice.
It can build tension (for both ends of it).
And for a lot of dogs, especially rescues, that changes everything.

Lou is a great example of this.

Off lead? Happy out, focused on her ball, no interest in other dogs.
On lead? Rushing, building pressure, finding it much harder to cope.

So instead of correcting the reaction, we focused on:
🐾 slowing everything down
🐾 building connection before triggers
🐾 giving her owner clear, practical tools (like the emergency U-turn)
🐾 and preparing for real-life situations, not perfect ones

Because your dog doesn’t need you to “push through” situations they’re struggling with. They need you to understand them, guide them, and advocate for them.

And when you start there… things begin to change.

If your walks feel stressful, unpredictable, or like you’re always on edge, you’re not alone, and it is something you can work through.

Get in touch through the link in my bio and we’ll build a plan that actually fits your dog and your day-to-day life.💚 🐾

Because of the heat, Bobby and I kept everything short, shaded, and intentional. In just a few minutes, he got to sprint, play, think, and switch on. We used a bit of chase to let him burn energy in a way he loves, then layered in some training: sitting in heel, holding position while the ball is thrown, waiting for release, hitting an emergency stop, and working into middle.

What looks like “just playing” is actually ticking off so many boxes: impulse control, engagement, responsiveness, and proper mental stimulation. That kind of work can tire a dog out far more effectively than an hour of mindless walking, especially in this weather.🥵☀️

It is not about how long you are out. It is about how much your dog is actually using their brain and body while you are.

Train smart, keep it short, and you will still meet your dog’s needs, even on the hottest days. 🐾💚

These clips of Billie are taken directly from the personalised training videos I sent her owner during our Walk & Train sessions.

Billie is reactive to dogs, easily startled by movement and noise, and generally finds the outside world overwhelming. So before we think about “fixing” reactions, we focus on helping her feel safe enough to learn.

In these sessions, we worked on loose lead walking to reduce tension, engagement to bring her focus back to her handler, and an emergency “this way” cue to calmly move her away from triggers before things escalate.

One of the most important parts of Billie’s training is decompression. Giving her the space to sniff, move, and process her environment without pressure is what allows her nervous system to settle. Without that, learning simply does not stick.

You’ll notice we are not pushing her towards other dogs. For fearful, reactive dogs, progress often starts with distance, predictability, and giving them a clear way out.

Billie is currently training with me 3 times a week for 6 weeks, and this is just the starting point. Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing more of her journey so you can see how these small, consistent sessions build into real, lasting change.

Reactive dogs do not need to be pushed harder. They need better guidance, clearer communication, and the chance to feel safe while they learn. Keep an eye out for Billie’s progress. 🐾 💚

If you’re like Billie’s owner, who really wants to train their dog, but life’s busyness makes it difficult to commit to 1:2:1’s, then our Walk’N’Train service is for you. Your dog will have their very own V.I.D training sessions, complete with training videos for you to train in your own time. Check out our Walk’N’Train Packages and get in touch;

A client said to me recently, “My dog growls when we play tug… I think it’s making him aggressive.” So they stopped playing altogether. And honestly? I hear this all the time.

But here’s what I want you to see 👇

This is Lucky. He growls, he’s loud, he sounds intense…
but he’s relaxed, happy, and fully in control of himself.
And most importantly, he can let go when asked. That’s the difference.

Growling during play isn’t the problem. Lack of control, tension, or inability to disengage is. When done properly, tug isn’t creating aggression, it’s building:
• Better communication
• Stronger engagement
• A healthier outlet for your dog

So if you’ve been avoiding tug because it “sounds bad”… you’re not alone, but you might be holding back one of the best ways to bond with your dog.

Save this if you’ve ever worried about it, and send it to someone who needs the reassurance. 🐾💚

Coco understood the assignment. This is what real-life puppy training looks like when you stay consistent, keep it fair, and actually practise in the environments that matter.

Coco smashed his puppy training, but none of this happened by accident. It’s not about having a “good puppy”, it’s about building skills step by step, and helping your dog understand what you want from them in the real world.

Most owners struggle not because their puppy is “bold” or “stubborn”, but because they haven’t been shown how to teach these behaviours in a clear, practical way.

Coco’s progress is the result of:
🐾Consistency
🐾Clear communication
🐾Practising in the right situations
🐾And setting him up to succeed

If your walks feel chaotic, your recall is hit or miss, or your puppy ignores you when distractions show up, you’re not alone, and we are here to help.This is exactly what we focus on in our puppy training. Check out our Puppy Training Packages and get in touch;

Luna’s final session… and look at this progress. When Luna first started her puppy training, coming back when called around other dogs felt nearly impossible. And that’s completely normal for puppies.

The world is exciting, distracting, and full of things more interesting than us. So we didn’t just let her off lead and hope she will come when called, we built her recall.

We started in low-distraction environments, made coming back incredibly rewarding, and gradually introduced more real-life challenges like other dogs, movement, and new smells.

What you’re seeing here isn’t luck. It’s repetition, consistency, and clear communication. Notice how she chooses to come back, even with distractions nearby. That’s the goal, not just obedience, but understanding and trust.

If your puppy “won’t listen” outside, it’s usually not stubbornness. It just means they’re not ready for that level of distraction yet.Train the skill first, then raise the difficulty.

Luna absolutely smashed it, and this is just the beginning for her. If you want your puppy to be like Luna, check out our puppy training packages and get in touch. Let's get you and your pup off to like together on the right paw. 🐾💚

Coco starting off strong with one of the most important foundations: marker training. That clear “YES” moment tells him exactly what behaviour worked. No guessing, no confusion, just clarity. And when puppies understand the game, they learn faster and feel more confident doing it.

Then we slow things down and let him explore.Sniffing through different materials might look simple, but this is confidence building in real time. New textures, new surfaces, new experiences, all done at his pace, with no pressure.

This is how you help prevent fear later on. Not by forcing exposure, but by letting curiosity lead.

And just when you think training is all structure and skill-building…

You realise a solid percentage of this job involves detailed discussions about dog poo.

Totally normal. Surprisingly detailed. Always important.

Our puppy packages are designed to help puppy owners like you build calm, confident habits early. Get in touch with Sarah to find out more;
