It is with great sadness that we learnt yesterday afternoon of the passing of Richard "Richie" Mulcahy, a family man, a friend, and a true racing character.

Richie was beloved husband and best friend to Sheila and proud and loving father to Carmel and Margaret, he was the unmistakable voice of Sunday point-to-point races and racecourses across the country. He brought each race to life, calling out the runners and riders with a steady, familiar tone that became part of the fabric of the sport.

Unassuming by nature, he loved the chat but never sought the spotlight—content instead to be the voice behind the microphone. His passion for racing and his presence at the heart of it all will be deeply missed, Richie though the race may be over, the memory of your voice that called it will echo forever.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Michael O’Sullivan. Racing has the power to bring so much joy, uniting fans and professionals alike in a shared passion. But on days like this, when the industry is faced with the heartbreaking loss of such a talented individual, it is a stark reminder of how fragile life can be. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Michael’s family, friends, and all who knew him during this incredibly difficult time.

As social media spreads the word tonight - the passing of a sporting legend, everyone here in GJA racing takes a minute to remember Teddy McCarthy.

We met Teddy back in 2017 when he became part owner of a mare called Sweet Destination, he arrived into the yard and introduced himself - we laughed as if we didn’t know who he was, the legend that is Teddy Mc was here in our yard!

Not only was he an owner in the yard, he became a friend, the type of friend who didn’t need to knock or who would put on the kettle himself. Here he wasn’t Teddy Mc the hurler he was just Teddy!

Over the years he stood on sidelines of pitches at Scaith na Scol matches shouting for Josh, always on hand to drop to training or trips to the shop with Chloe to collect lunch for everyone here, attending fundraisers for the friends of Denis Barry, copies of his book Teddy Boy turned up for him to sign and he used to laugh going ‘Jesus where did ye pick that up!’ - he was as much a supporter of us as we were of him over the years.

Tonight’s news has left us all thinking about the legend he was, we were lucky to have seen him in his glory days, we were lucky to get to know him, but most of all we were lucky and proud to be able to call him a friend.

Fly high Teddy Boy - you’ve given memories of glory days to so many that has assured you a place in heaven.

You will be missed x

Love the horse first & the sport second. We loved him that’s for sure 💔 Fly high Mount Pelier.
