What are we looking for when assessing a cow’s health? These are some of the things that should be at the top of your radar when deciding whether to seek vet advice or not:

Behaviour – abnormal, not eating, hanging back, less responsive.
Temperature – normal temp around 38oc
Respiratory rate – a normal rate is between 26 – 50 breaths per minute
Body condition score – thin or fat
Rumination – a healthy cow will spend 6 hours chewing the cud
Coat and skin – patches of hair loss
Mobility – are they walking comfortably on all four feet?
Udder – any signs of mastitis? Pain, heat, reddening, swelling?
Sunken eyes – a sign of dehydration

There are many other things to look out for but these are the key areas to keep an eye on.
