🐶 Why Is My Dog's V***a Not Fully Exposed?

Some dogs have a v***a that is partially covered by surrounding skin folds — a condition known as recessed v***a or hooded v***a. This is more common in certain breeds and can lead to recurrent health issues.

🔍 Causes
Congenital conformation – some breeds are predisposed to excess skin folds E.g English Bulldogs, French Bulldogs, Pugs, Basset Hounds, and English Cocker Spaniels
Obesity – worsens the condition

如何幫寵物刷牙?🐶🐱?

牙周病是小動物最常見的疾病之一，但毛孩的牙齒🦷健康卻常被忽略。

🪥 為什麼寵物需要刷牙？
牙菌24小時內就會形成，若未清潔，可能導致牙結石、牙齦發炎，甚至影響心臟與腎臟健康。每天花幾分鐘，就能為避免麻醉洗牙！

其實，居家護理可以輕鬆又愉快，只要掌握三個關鍵：
1️⃣ 慢慢開始
先讓寵物熟悉「刷牙」情境：用手指輕觸牙齦、請他們從你手指上舔食寵物專用牙膏。每天1-2分鐘，持續一周。
2️⃣ 逐漸進步
換成寵物專用牙刷 (大狗) 或手指刷 (細狗/貓用），塗抹貓狗專用牙膏（雞肉、魚肉口味）。初期只刷前排牙齒，再慢慢擴展到後牙。

🐾 病例分享：Oreo 的康復之旅 🐾

來認識一下 Oreo，我哋勇敢既19歲貴婦狗！🐩

Oreo 右後腳有一個軟組織腫塊。我哋進行了細針抽吸檢查，結果確認係腫瘤。經過仔細討論後，我哋決定在全身麻醉下進行手術。

雖然 Oreo 已經 19 歲，是高齡犬，但年齡本身並非決定性因素——最重要係病人既整體健康狀況。經過完整既麻醉前評估，確認 Oreo 整體健康狀況良好，我哋有信心他能安全地接受手術。

整個過程中，我哋獸醫姑娘團隊密切監控Oreo既狀況，而Oreo也順利從麻醉中恢復。💪

Meet Oreo, our brave 19-year-old poodle! 🐩

Oreo came to us with a soft tissue lump on his right hind leg. We performed a fine needle aspirate, and the results confirmed it was a tumour. After careful discussion with his devoted family, we decided to proceed with surgery under general anaesthesia.

While Oreo is a senior boy at 19, age alone isn't a deciding factor — what matters most is the patient's overall health. After a thorough pre-anaesthetic assessment confirmed Oreo was generally healthy, we were confident he could undergo the procedure safely. Throughout the surgery, our well-trained nurses closely monitored him every step of the way, and he recovered smoothly from the anaesthesia. 💪

The histopathology report revealed a soft tissue sarcoma grade 1 — an aggressive type of tumour, but fortunately low grade. We're thrilled to share that our surgical margins were complete, successfully avoiding recurrence! 🎉

👁️👁️ 狗狗鼻淚管沖洗

獸醫會先評估狗狗是否適合進行鼻淚管沖洗。呢個程序屬於診斷性及症狀緩解嘅治療，通常唔會根治問題，因為大部分淚溢嘅成因係品種相關嘅結構性問題。

狗狗鼻淚管沖洗喺全身麻醉下進行，主要檢查管道是否暢通，並暫時改善淚溢。

小型犬天生鼻淚管較窄，容易有慢性淚溢。沖洗後可能會復發，需要長期管理。

🩺 沖洗目的
· 檢查管道是否存在／暢通
· 沖走阻塞物
· 暫時改善流眼水

🏥 沖洗程序
獸醫會分別為上淚管及下淚管進行沖洗：

👁️ Nasolacrimal Duct Flush: Managing Epiphora in Dogs

Your vet will first assess whether your dog would benefit from a nasolacrimal duct flush. This procedure is diagnostic and symptom-relieving — it does not usually cure the underlying problem, as most cases of epiphora are caused by breed-related structural issues.

Nasolacrimal duct flushing is performed under general anaesthesia to check duct patency and temporarily improve epiphora (excessive tearing).

Small breed dogs are prone to chronic epiphora due to congenitally narrow ducts. Relapse may occur after flushing, requiring long-term management.

🩺 Purpose of Flush
· Check if ducts are present/patent
· Flush out blockages
· Temporarily reduce tearing

🏥 Flush Procedure
The vet will flush both the upper and lower puncta (tear duct openings):

1. Flush the upper and lower nasolacrimal ducts with saline
2. Observe if saline drains from the nose (confirms patency)

🐶 如何幫狗狗擠肛門腺？

肛門腺係肛門兩側嘅小囊，正常排便時會自然排空。如大便偏軟, 可增加纖維幫助大便成形。

⚠️ 先評估有冇需要

如果狗狗冇摩擦屁股或不適，一般唔需要擠。

有需要嘅情況：
· 摩擦屁股（拖行）
· 頻繁舔肛門
· 肛門紅腫或異味

🧤 擠壓步驟（最好由獸醫或美容師處理）

如必須自行處理：
1️⃣ 戴上手套，用紙巾覆蓋肛門
2️⃣ 首先，搵出肛門腺嘅位置。左邊喺 8點鐘位置，右邊喺4點鐘位置。將拇指同食指放喺腺體底部固定，防止滑動。施加穩定嘅壓力，向上擠壓，直至腺體排空。
3️⃣ 液體排出後清潔乾淨

❌ 切勿
· 用力過度
· 頻繁擠壓
· 唔肯定就交由獸醫處理

🐶 How to Express Your Dog's A**l Glands

A**l glands are small sacs beside the a**s. They normally empty during bowel movements. If your dog's stool is soft, increasing fibre intake can help firm it up.

⚠️ First, Assess If Needed

If your dog isn't scooting or uncomfortable, generally no need to express.

When needed:
· Scooting (dragging bottom)
· Frequent licking of the a**l area
· Redness or foul odour around the a**s

🧤 Expressing Steps (Best done by vet or groomer)

If you must do it yourself:
1️⃣ Wear gloves, cover the a**s with tissue
2️⃣ First, locate the a**l glands. The left side at 8 o'clock position and the right side at 4 o'clock position. Place you thumb and index finger to secure the bottom of the a**l gland to stop it from moving. Apply firm pressure and squeeze upwards to express the gland until empty.
3️⃣ Clean the area after release

❌ Don't
· Squeeze too hard
· Express too often
· If unsure, leave it to the vet

🩺 When to See a Vet
· Discomfort persists after expressing
· Redness worsens
· Blood or pus
