As many of you know, Dr. Agapis virtually teaches disaster response and preparedness and the effects natural disasters have on animals for the University of Missouri. As natural disasters, such as floods and forest fires, will only continue to increase in numbers, we must take action as a community. Proper preparedness is the only way forward to protect our environment and all that live inside it. Currently the village of Soroni has an active Environmental Society with over 25 members certified as volunteer firefighters and others certified by the Red Cross. The group provides 24/7 fire monitoring of the area from Profitis Ilias down, beach clean-ups, educational programs, etc. Many of you may have seen them volunteering their time during the Ialysos floods in November. They are currently trying to raise 66,000 euros to purchase a small fire vehicle that will aid in the prompt response to forest fires before they become large. AgapiVet has pledged to donate 10,000 euros. If you would like to help, please visit the group's booth at Agios Soulas Festival. No donation is too small. If every visitor to the festival donated just 1 euro, imagine what a help that would be!
