Every time your dog chooses to look back at you during a walk, that’s valuable communication.

These small “check-ins” are the building blocks of loose lead walking and reliable recall.

🐾Notice them.
🐾Mark them.
🐾Reward them.

Connection grows through moments like these.

Walks are full of distractions, movement and exciting smells.

Practising attention before stepping outside helps your dog stay more connected once the walk begins.
Try:
🐾pause at the door
🐾wait for eye contact
🐾reward
🐾then leave together

Small routines make a big difference to how walks feel for both of you.

Dogs feel safer when they can choose whether to approach something new.

Allowing your dog to pause, observe or move away helps build genuine confidence.

Confidence isn’t created by pressure; it grows through positive experiences at your dog’s pace. 🐾

Recall starts long before you say your cue.

Every time your dog chooses to look back at you or move towards you, that’s worth rewarding.

These small moments build strong recall habits over time, and reliable recall grows from many tiny good decisions.

If a dog feels overwhelmed, learning becomes difficult. 🐩🐕

Giving more distance from distractions often makes training easier and more effective.

Distance isn’t avoidance.
It’s a training tool. 🐾

The front door is one of the most exciting places in a dog’s day.

Practising attention before opening it helps your dog stay calm once outside.

Try this:
Pause → wait for a sit and eye contact → reward → then open the door and invite your dog through

Small habits like this make walks much easier.

Oh my, is it really Sunday already 😳….

Socialisation isn’t just for puppies. 🐶

Dogs benefit from positive experiences with the world at every age.

That might include:
• new environments
• different surfaces
• unfamiliar sounds
• calm exposure to people and dogs

Confidence grows through ongoing safe & positive experiences. 🐾@

Dogs repeat what works. 🐾

If excitement gets attention, movement or interaction, excitement grows.

If calm behaviour earns rewards, calm behaviour grows instead.

Try noticing and rewarding when your dog:
• lies down quietly
• checks in with you
• waits patiently
• relaxes beside you

Calmness is a skill we can teach. 🐶

Many dogs feel more relaxed when they don’t have to say hello on walks. 🐶

Polite passing is an important life skill.

Learning that it’s okay to walk past another dog helps build confidence, focus and emotional regulation.

It’s always fine to say: “Not today.” 🐾
