I’ve been thinking today of us dog walkers 30+ degrees we can’t walk so how do we earn our money

Never in the 4 years I’ve been in business I’ve had to cancel a full day of walking because of the heat

So whilst some people might call us lazy and not bothered what does it mean for us dog walkers!?

Well I don’t work so I won’t get paid simple as that.
I’ve estimated this week I’ve lost over £500
In a cost of living crisis as a single
Individual this is crucial
This means next week
I don’t get to eat what I want
I’m stuck to basics just to get by for the month.

My dogs are put before
Myself so their needs will become before mine.

My van insurance, phone bill, public liability insurance, first aid insurance still has
To be paid.

What I’m trying to say self employment isn’t easy il say this for all us dog walkers we do this job because we love these dogs money comes as the reward! But we still have to survive so please be kind when I say I can’t walk your dog

Your dogs safety comes first.
If you want to walk you dog in this heat it’s simple
You shouldn’t own one!

Please stay safe when I say I can’t walk your dog I’m keeping your dog safe before
My own needs 🧡

On the cooler weeks

These dates so please bare with me as one is a medical procedure.

Wednesday 1st and Thursday 2nd July back to work as normal
From Friday the 2nd July.
24th and 27th July off

That’s all for the full year

Any future dates il let you know as soon as possible

Some dog walkers have cancelled the full week this week and that’s ok.
Some have cancelled a few days and that’s also ok.
Some have tried to carry on the best that they can doing super early walks and that’s ok too. We are all in the job together 🐶

We can only do what’s best for our dogs to keep them safe. Some dogs cope better than others. I’ve been doing this for 4 years now and not once has it been this hot to the point where I’ve had to cancel my full
Days walking 😭

Please bare with me during this heatwave as I’m doing the best I can. Sadly I cannot press a switch and change the weather. ( which would be nice)
It’s not just the temperature I have to
Watch the humidity as well. My van has been at 38 degrees today which I wouldn’t risk leaving any dog in even for 5 minutes. Tomorrow again is super hot so garden visits will be commencing for the dogs on their own (if anyone has any frozen lick mats or kongs they wish me to give to the dogs please let me know)

When I say I’m cancelling walks rest assured I’m definitely not being lazy ( I’m
Ginger and hate the heat I’d do anything to be out walking 😆🫠🤣) I take the loss financially as I don’t get paid when I can’t work 😢 your dogs safety will always be my number one priority! Lets ride this heat wave together and look forward to a cooler week next week fingers crossed 🤞🏻 ☀️

Any worries please drop me a message

We need to talk about this weather 🌡️
At 8:30 last night it was still 32°C — and we passed people out walking their dogs. We really feel for those pups.
Please remember — British dogs are not acclimatised to this kind of heat. They simply aren't built for it. And it's not just the temperature, it's the humidity too. That combination makes it so much harder for them to regulate their body temperature, even when you think it's cooled down.
It's still 22°C through the night. By 7am it's already climbing again. There is no safe window right now.
Ask yourself this — could YOU walk around barefoot on that pavement, wearing a fur coat? Because that's exactly what you're asking your dog to do. 🐾
If you're unsure, place your hand flat on the pavement for 7 seconds. Can't hold it there? Neither can their paws.
Your dog will not die from missing a walk. They could die from going on one. 🖤
Please share this — it could save a dog's life 🧡

☀️ Wednesday update folks
For walks! 21 degrees by 7am 😩 which means I won’t be walking tomorrow at all, it’s just not worth the risk! I will however still do garden visits for the dogs on their own all day. Absolute scorcher of a week next week is looking better 🫶🏻 il drop everyone a message who’s booked in tomorrow to double check if dogs are on their own or not. Safety first always ☀️
