DAY 7 – PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER: ENGAGEMENT IS EVERYTHING

Engagement isn’t a trick or a trend, it’s the thread running through everything you do with your dog.

When engagement improves:
• obedience becomes clearer and faster
• your dog stays mentally available
• recovery from distractions improves
• real-world reliability increases

Here’s the truth most people miss…

You can love your dog and still lack engagement.
Affection alone doesn’t build relevance, clarity, or consistency.

A strong relationship needs:
• guidance
• boundaries
• meaningful interaction
• and a dog that sees you as worth paying attention to

This is where it fits into The Power of Four:
• Play builds value
• Rest builds regulation
• Obedience builds clarity
• Play Again reinforces connection

Engagement runs through all of it.

Reality check:
If you removed the food, the chatter, the lead pressure, and the easy environment…
would your dog still choose you?

If not—that’s not failure. That’s your starting point.

Focus this week:
• Stop repeating cues
• Reward check-ins
• Use movement
• Control access to the environment
• Build engagement into daily life

Final thought:
Engagement isn’t your dog staring at you for food.
It’s your dog choosing you, even when the world is more interesting.
