🧡 Lore - pumpkin patch (aka. Hapalopus formosus)
🖤 Gild - Columbian dwarf (aka. Cyriocosmus leetzi)
🧡 Charm - Love heart butt (aka. Cyriocosmus elegans)

Dwarf tarantulas don't get nearly enough appreciation.

Everyone talks about the giant species, but there's something special about the tiny ones. They're often beautifully patterned, fascinating to watch, and make incredible use of their space. Despite their size, they have all the personality and behaviour that make tarantulas such rewarding animals to keep.

I'm excited to watch these dwarf species excavate burrows, rearrange webbing, or sit proudly over a freshly decorated hide. They may only be a few centimetres across, but they seem completely unaware of that fact.

Whether it's a pumpkin patch, a Colombian dwarf, or another miniature species, they're proof that bigger isn't always better. Small, colourful, active, and full of character—dwarf tarantulas deserve far more love than they get.

Today, I added an i3 jumping spider to my shelf, from janners jumping spiders. I've affectionately named them 'Flea' because...well...tiny!! And a nod to the bassist from Red Hot Chilli Peppers! ☺️🖤

I know selling and keeping spiders at this stage can be a topic of debate within the hobby, and I completely understand why — young spiderlings require more attention, appropriate prey, and careful husbandry.

For me, one of the positives of raising a jumping spider from such an early instar is the opportunity to observe and learn from every stage of its development. It gives me valuable experience with feeding, growth, moulting, and general spiderling care that I hope will help me become a more knowledgeable keeper.

As someone interested in breeding jumping spiders responsibly, I think there is a lot to be gained from understanding the challenges and requirements of raising healthy spiderlings firsthand. My focus is on providing the best care possible, continuing to learn, and sharing that journey along the way. Personally, any babies I have will spend more time with me before going on to their new homes but I'm grateful for the chance to have my little Flea!
I'm excited to watch this little one grow and document its progress from almost the very beginning 🥰

Orion has been visiting us from Hexarium for the last few weeks and he's been a busy boy!
He's had dates with Astrid, Star and Peaches, and it's about time he went home for a rest! 🤣
