❗️Please be extra careful in the heat❗️
Your dog will not die from missing a walk, or from going out earlier, but absolutely can from walking in high temps!
It's finally time to share a hot weather update because summer is coming! I won't say it too loud because I don't want to scare it away.
Hot temperatures can be brutal to dogs and other animals but it will be even more of a shock this week because there has been no acclimatisation period of it gradually getting warmer. According to my weather app, which to be fair during the recent rain has been pretty useless, on Thursday and beyond for over the next few weeks at least temperatures are going to reach well above the safe walking temperatures.
So, what does this mean? My cut off for walking in hot weather is 23°C for all dogs, it is much lower for certain dogs in my care (larger dogs and those with special medical needs). All walks scheduled will be moved earlier in the day or changed to stay and plays with pool time (if possible).

⚠️IF IT HITS 24, WALK NO MORE ⚠️
With the weather hitting very high temperatures this week, it’s a responsible idea to familiarise yourself with what temperatures are safe for your dog☀️🐶
As a general rule of thumb, temperatures exceeding 24 degrees should attempt to be avoided for all dog walks. But some larger breeds, flat faced, obese or puppies could struggle in heat over 16 degrees. You should also take a moment to consider if your dog struggles with any emotional behaviour difficulties as studies have shown an increase in temperature can lead to a lower threshold for aggression.
Every year our vets treat hundreds of heat stroke cases and heartbreakingly, some end in tragedy. Many are unfortunately a result of owners not knowing the dangers of exercising their dogs in temperatures to hot for them to handle.
Heat-related illnesses are almost always preventable. DONT TAKE THE RISK and make sure your pet isn’t overheating in the sun ☀️ Walk your dog earlier or later in the day when the temperatures are cooler.
Any questions, please ask! Everything will be taken day to day to ensure the best possible care 💙🐾
