Welcome to Team Woof It Bonnie 💕

Lovely to meet this sweet girl this week for a full groom (yup, short haired dogs need grooming too!)

I am currently only taking on naturally short haired dogs like Bonnie (not clipped short).

I have very limited availability for a couple of short haired dogs in August and then bookings are from September onwards.. just in time for the next shedding season! 🍂

🥵 HOT WEATHER REMINDER 🥵

As we’re now officially in our week of British summer, just a reminder of few points if you’re visiting this week…

☀️ I am very lucky that my salon stays pretty cool for most of the day. It doesn’t hold the heat well which is great this time of year!

☀️ I take measures in the salon the keep your pups cool- the bath temp is turned down, dryers set to cool air, lots of water around and I have lots of towels which I can dip in cool water for your dogs to stand on during grooming/ lay on after - although I have a concrete floor so it’s always cold like a giant cool mat!

☀️ Some dogs may leave damp. Especially those that don’t require clipping. They will dry off pretty quickly in this weather and it just means there is less need for the dryer to be on them. This will DEFINITELY happen if your dog is Brachycephalic, a puppy or old.

☀️ If you dog is showing signs of stress or I feel they are getting too hot and bothered the grooming process will stop immediately/ I may adapt what they have done to suit their personal circumstances.

☀️ Your dog might have a wet belly or beard when you pick them up- this will be because they have been on a wet towel or taking advantage of the all your can drink bar 💦

☀️ WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?

👉🏼DO NOT (and I cannot stress this enough) walk your dog down to the salon. I don’t care how close you live. It is too hot and I’ll be starting on the back foot. If your dog is too hot when they arrive from walking down I will not groom them and the full charge will apply. Put them in the car with the air con up high!

👉🏼 Please let them rest before visiting and ensure they have time to digest any food. Stressed dogs are hot dogs.

👉🏼On arrival please ensure the hand over is swift and free from pandering to the dogs. This is not to be mean, but they feed off your energy and I need them as calm as possible. There will be plenty of time for cuddles this evening when it’s cooler!

Thank you for your understanding with this, I have groomed many dogs in this salon during the summer months over the years and if we all follow these points the only one sweating and getting hot will be me! ☀️

You won’t like what you’re about to hear. But there’s one thing that will help your dog’s oral health.

CONSISTENCY.

There I said it.

Flitting back and fourth between “oh bu**er they’re terrible” to “look all that hard work paid off” will never sustain beautiful pearly whites.

Whether you pick ultrasound cleaning, vet cleaning, a range of natural treats specifically designed to help improve oral health, natural supplements, cleaning them at home or a combination of all of the above.. if you stop, the build up starts.

Dog teeth are like human teeth. We don’t go to the hygienist and expect a one stop shop. If we didn’t continue the work at home, we’d be back in the dentist’s chair probably in a lot of pain. The same goes for dogs I’m afraid.

Except they do and with a 100% retention on last year’s membership too ✌🏽

✨You forget to rebook your appointments

✨You need certain days/ times to fit your schedule

✨You’re happy to book months in advance

Moral of the story? Take the damn brush on holiday!

The vast amount of dogs are not used to long brushing and combing sessions. Yaya is very tolerant in these circumstances as he’s used to it and I know how to handle this situation with his coat (because it’s my job!).

But even with his experience with long meticulous combing sessions- some parts brought discomfort or just weren’t worth the hassle. So you know what I did? Shaved them out! That’s what was best for Yaya.

Does he have a few naked patches? Yes
Does he care? Nope!
Do I care? Not particularly
Is it my own fault for not brushing and combing him properly? 100%

In the salon I would have just shaved it all. It’s much better for the dog’s wellbeing (I’ll just reiterate here Yaya is a groomers dog- he’s used to these sessions and they don’t bother him). An extra work would also cost an added £25 minimum in the salon.

Humanity is always before vanity. If I let you know I’ve shaved matts out of your dog’s coat, I’m not judging you. I’m simply letting you know that I care about your dog and it’s the best thing I could do for them in that session 💖
