We are looking for a qualified and motivated Equine Veterinary Nurse (RVN or eRVN) or experienced technician to provide maternity cover (12 months).

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced equine veterinary environment and is ready to take on a leadership role.

🐴This role includes:
• Leading and supporting a team of 7 technicians
• Handling a wide range of horses for veterinary procedures
• Assisting a busy team of 10 equine vets, providing hands-on nursing support for a range of cases
• In-house laboratory testing
• Coordinating day-to-day clinical activities and workflow
• Some admin duties including the Practice Standards Scheme

✨About you:
• Qualified and registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) or previous experience working within a veterinary practice.
• Confident and experienced horse handling
• Strong leadership and team management skills
• Organised, proactive, and able to prioritise effectively
• Passionate about delivering high standards of equine & client care

⏰Hours & rota:
•Full time, Monday–Friday (8:00–5:00 or 8:30–5:30)
• Weekday evening on-call duty for emergency
•Weekend 1:6 on-call rota for inpatient care & emergency assistance - with 2 weekdays in lieu (Tues/Weds)

What a busy weekend for the team out and about! ☀️🐴🐄

Saturday was spent at the The Hadleigh Show with vets Jonathan and Tony on duty. It was a fantastic day catching up with clients, chatting ringside, and watching so many familiar faces competing throughout the day.

On Sunday, Lily was duty vet at The Essex Young Farmers Show and had a brilliant day by the equine arena, enjoying the atmosphere and supporting competitors🐎

It’s always great to be out supporting our local shows and seeing everyone doing so well!🏆

Following the recent dry weather, we are now seeing periods of rain combined with warm sunny days — conditions that can cause rapid grass growth and increase the risk of laminitis 🌦️

Signs to watch out for:
🌱Abnormal heat in hoof
🌱Increased digital pulse
🌱Weight shifting
🌱Pottery/ ’footy’ gait
🌱Struggling on hard or stony ground
🌱Sore on the turn
🌱Laying down more

⚠️ If your horse has any history of laminitis or is carrying excess weight, please monitor closely.

⚠️Horses with Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS) or Cushing’s Disease will be at particular risk. We recommend testing basal (baseline) insulin in conjunction with ACTH testing to determine laminitis risk and allow us to tailor management recommendations for individual horses and ponies accordingly.

A great evening with the Ingatestone & Blackmore Riding Club last night for Ben’s talk — thank you to everyone who came along!

We love supporting local riding groups and it was fantastic to see such a great turnout 🐴
