We are very proud to announce our Mitral Valve Disease clinic was a great success!
All attendees had an assessment, left sided echocardiogram and diagnosis from our wonderful 1st opinion Cardiologist Daniela. The aim of our clinic was to identify those animals eligible for medication which would extend patients lives by up to 15 months. All of our patients fit a specific criteria in order to be chosen for this clinic.
50% of our patients were diagnosed with mitral valve disease (MVD) stage B2 which meant they were eligible for medications. These included Max and Milo the chihuahua cross brothers, they supported each other during their individual scans, and were given lots of fuss by the Cardiac Team. Stage B2 is where the patient has a murmur, and heart enlargement is present.
The other 50% of dogs were diagnosed with MVD B1 - the patient has a heart murmur, but no heart enlargement, so we look forward to seeing these patients again in 6 months to monitor for progression of the disease.
Diagnosing at this vital B stage enables us to intervene and implement changes to support cardiac function, slow down valve degeneration and extends the period before entering heart failure.
We will be opening up enquiries for future Cardiac Clinics in the future!
