⚠️ PLAN AHEAD: Resurfacing on the A1(M) – Boroughbridge to Wetherby⚠️

Important resurfacing works will soon take place on the A1(M) southbound between junctions 48 (Boroughbridge) and 46 (Wetherby).

These improvements will make journeys safer, smoother and more reliable for everyone using this route.

🛠 What’s happening?
We’re carrying out deep inlay resurfacing — removing worn-out layers and replacing them with new asphalt. This strengthens the road and helps prevent future deterioration.

🔒 Closures

🔴Weekend of 5, 6 and 7 June:
• Full overnight closures (8pm–6am) between J48 and J46
• During the day, 2 out of 3 lanes will be closed between junctions 47 and 46. These closures are needed to allow materials to cure
⚠️Delays are expected. Allow extra time for your journey

8 June – early July:
🌙 Overnight closures every weeknight (Mon–Fri, 8pm–6am)
👷‍♂️During these closures, we’ll also be carrying out maintenance and litter picking.

🔀 Diversion Route: Traffic will be diverted via the A168 and B1224.

Tips to keep your pets cool

It’s already been a scorcher of a Bank Holiday weekend, and with temperatures set to soar again today, we urge all pet owners to be mindful of the heat and how it can affect their pets. ☀️🐾

Heatstroke can affect all animals, but those most at risk include elderly pets, puppies, small furries, and brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds such as French Bulldogs, Bulldogs, and Pugs.

🐶 Dogs & Cats 🐱
• Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are cooler
• Freeze treats inside KONGs or other enrichment toys to help keep them cool and entertained
• Allow access to a paddling pool
• Keep pets indoors with blinds or curtains closed during the hottest part of the day
• Avoid overexertion in the garden
• Provide fresh water
• Offer cooling mats for them to lie on and fans to lie in front of

🐰 Small Furries
• Freeze plastic water bottles, wrap them in a towel, and place them in enclosures for pets to lie against
• Keep hutches and runs in shaded areas, or use a parasol or cover to provide shade
• Always provide fresh water

⚠️ Signs of Heatstroke
• Excessive panting
• Wobbliness or weakness
• Open-mouth breathing (especially in small furries)
• Collapse
• Seizures
• Vomiting or diarrhoea
• Dark red or bright pink gums

🚨 If You Suspect Heatstroke

🐶 Dogs & Cats 🐱
Immediately move your pet into the shade and pour cool (not ice-cold) water over their neck, legs, and stomach. Then contact us straight away.

🐰 Small Furries
Move your pet into the shade immediately and gently dampen their ears with cool water. DO NOT submerge them in cold water. Instead, place them on an ice pack wrapped in a towel, offer fresh water, and contact us immediately.

Heatstroke can be deadly, especially if it isn’t caught in time. Please take precautions to keep your pets safe, and if you have any suspicions that your pet may have heatstroke, act quickly
