Double Bank Holiday - Disruption Incoming

It’s coming, despite the fact we’re sure Christmas was only a few weeks ago it’s actually Easter next weekend.

This is great if you are a rabbit or partial to an excessive amount of Chocolate, but for rawvolutionaries like you lot the double bank holiday can cause a few issues in the freezer department.

To avoid delays and beat the anticipated deluge of orders next week will bring - we strongly advise you to order as soon as possible.

Orders placed after 2pm Wednesday 16th April - Despatched FROM Tuesday 22nd for delivery FROM Wednesday 23rd.

There will be no deliveries Friday 18th - Tuesday 22nd April.

We anticipate a significant volume of orders to send out on the Tuesday afterwards - there will be a backlog that takes a few days to clear, if you need an order before later that week then you need to get your order in promptly.

Unfortunately even our beloved subscription holders are susceptible to the egg based chaos. Log in and check your account area because if your next renewal falls over the affected dates it will take longer to get to you than usual.

Bring the date forward to this coming monday at the latest to get your next box before Good Friday.

Made by us, obviously*

*You would think this would go without saying but unfortunately not all is as it seems. 👀

Just like the various brands of let’s say, tea bags sold in the supermarket are made in the same few factories, an increasing number of raw dog food brands don’t actually make their own food.

It’s made in a factory hundreds of miles away along with several other brands and a different label is put on it.

All our food is made in our own kitchen (about 40 metres from where i’m sat writing this), so we can control the whole process from composing the precise recipe and selecting the ingredients and suppliers, to mixing, mincing and putting it in its packaging.

For example we know precisely what cut of beef went into the Surf & Turf being produced in our kitchen today, where it came from and when it arrived, what temperature it was, who packed it and how they take their tea (milky but strong for me).

We completely control the hygiene standards throughout the entire process, ensure our staff training is up to scratch and our quality assurance checks and standards are maintained flawlessly.

The food being completely our own is the only way we’d feel comfortable putting our name to it.

We believe in doing things the right way - even if it’s not the easiest - only then can we ensure our food sets new standards for what we’d want for our own pets.

Needless to say, it’s Yorkshire Tea all the way here!

We’re excited to announce a huge innovation at Naturaw.

Our new facility harnesses the hot air created by the pet food industry and uses proprietary technology to turn it into energy to power our entire production facility ⚡️🔌

The Continuous Recirculated Air Particles processor goes online at 9AM this morning.

*EDIT 01/04/2025 09.01 AM - unfortunately we had to take the new facility offline after approximately 14 seconds, as the amount of Continuous Recirculated Air Particles that were emitted exceeded all safety margins and overwhelmed the new facility.

We were not anticipating the scale of the output exceeding 1.21 gigawatts when we began and we are battling with controlling it. There is only a finite amount of Continuous Recirculated Air Particles that we can take. We will issue an update in due course.

Production of our food is unaffected.

When you’re looking at the ingredients on your dog’s food, ‘chicken’ is not just ‘chicken’.

Welfare matters.

Free range and Organic chickens in the UK have up to 40 times more space to move and express natural behaviours than intensively farmed indoor chickens.

Organic does not just mean the food they are fed is Organic, it is as much about welfare and is an inspected standard.

Better welfare, better quality and nutritional value of the meat and eggs (or is that eggs and meat?) 🐓🥚 / 🥚🐓

This is why we use a high proportion of Free Range & Organic meat in all our recipes, nothing is EVER battery farmed and we only use pre-stunned animals.

ALL of our chicken is free range or organic (and all our Turkey is also free range)

Often you’ll see blanket terms like ‘ethically sourced’ used - which actually means nothing tangible, look for specific details and provenance on the ingredients themselves.

We take animal welfare seriously (interesting fact - our human founders are actually vegetarian!) and believe if we are going to feed our carnivorous companions an appropriate diet we should do so with as much care and respect as possible to the meat within it.

A 25kg dog will consume around 456 x 500g packs of food each year - if you feed food that comes in plastic tubs that’s a colossal mountain of plastic waste 😬🚮

With the best will in the world that’s more than even the most organised of us can repurpose!

With our food, there is no pile of regret - we only use ground breaking home compostable, sustainable packaging 🌱

Our trays are made from wood fibres in Europe and the non-stick coating on them is a proprietary blend of completely home compostable bio film.

It may blow your mind (it still does ours!) that the clear film over the top is home compostable too - a really clever blend of starch, cellulose and some other stuff that we suspect includes sorcery 🧙‍♂️

In the UK, despite much plastic packaging carrying a “recyclable” label, only about 45% of plastic packaging actually makes it through the recycling process.

This gap arises because even when you put these items in your recycling bin, issues like contamination, mixed materials, and limited local processing capabilities mean that a large portion of the supposedly recyclable plastic ends up being diverted to landfill, incineration, or exported rather than being effectively recycled.

Unfortunately in the year 2025 single use plastic is still the number one choice for food manufacturers, which is really a pretty crap state of affairs.

❤️ Love is in the air…

or has someone had tripe and heart for dinner?

In a move that will horrify traditional marketing folk everywhere, we’re going to tell you it like it is: Tripe stinks. 👃

Imagine a pair of old socks, filled with fish heads - that would be a blessed relief.

Long story short it’s an - ahem - acquired taste.

Some of us choose to put up with it for the nutritional benefits it provides our pooches but if you find it too much or are about to get kicked out the house for creating such a foul aroma, don’t worry because we only include it in specifically labelled products - Tripe & Heart and Turkey, Tripe & Beef.

We don’t believe it should make up a high proportion of the diet despite being an easy way to bring down costs. We prefer to rely on more nutritious cuts like muscle meat.

So it’s only in 2 products out of 28 and is clearly labelled.

If you’re about to get kicked out the house for creating a stink and have not recently fed one of the aforementioned products, well we can’t help you with that one.

Naturaw Vs Carrot 🥕

A few of you have got in touch recently and asked what we have against Carrots.

For context this is because on our Forage product pages we have a little badge that says ‘No Carrot’

This isn’t a deep rooted vendetta against carrots, brought on by some carrot based trauma in our distant past, it’s not even a case of Carrotphobia (the fear of carrots - we just googled it)

Seriously it’s a thing “People with this phobia may have gained it over time from hearing carrots snap in half repeatedly”

Why were we talking about carrots again?

Oh yes, we don’t use them in our food because we feel when producing a food to be fed daily we feel there are much more nutrient dense green vegetables that we should include which is why we use Organic kale and broccoli.

Carrots are a much cheaper ingredient so are understandably used in lots of foods in a fairly large proportion and in effect can act to bulk the food out bringing the cost down. In our opinion at the expense of quality. Feed them as a treat if you like!

So to sum up, you’re safe to feed our food if you have Carrotphobia.

Yesterday we were visited by Ed Anderson CBE, Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire to tour Naturaw HQ and formally present our Kings Award for Enterprise - Sustainable Development 2023 (belatedly - but more on that below).

The team managed to take some time out from packing orders and making our food, in what has been an exceptionally busy week for us in the run up to the Christmas break.

The prestigious award (one of just 15 in the country last year) is recognition of the incredible hard work from the entire team, and we were delighted to celebrate it together, along with some of our family and friends of the business. ❤️

This year has been a busy one even by our own standards. We have just moved into our new office and distribution facility after 5 months of design and fit out work, doubling our footprint from what is now a dedicated production facility in the adjacent building.

If you supplied us with our fabulous British ingredients or our packaging, helped us make it, send it, advised or supported us, bought it or - and here’s the important one - ate it (we’re talking to you dogs) then thank you for being a part of a movement we feel even more passionately about than when we started 10 years ago (we’ve been so busy - we didn’t even celebrate that).

We can’t wait to continue our remarkable journey with you all in 2025.

Dogs deserve real food.

Mayday, Mayday, Mayday 📢

Just when we’d all calmed down from the sheer madness of the double bank holiday for Easter weekend, another one has reared its head over the parapet of this coming weekend.

It’s the May Day bank holiday on Monday 6th May.

Ok, so this time it’s just one day, but for those of you who like to live life on the edge and run your freezer right down to the last pack between deliveries - it might be the difference between bank holiday bliss and your dog having to eat something weird from the s*permarket.

To be clear, any orders received after 2pm this Thursday (2nd May) will not be received until the following Wednesday at the earliest.

Order now to beat the rush and get your order this week. 
Also this applies to subscription holders too - if your sub falls over the long weekend and you need it before next Wednesday then make sure you log into your account and bring the date forward ASAP so that we can get your food out and keep your freezer stocked up.

Because DPD don’t operate over bank holidays, and because your orders are made and packed by humans who deserve some time off with their families this Easter, there are some delays coming up you need to know about.

Here’s the short of it, because of Good Friday (29th March) and Easter Monday (1st April) we’ll only be able to despatch orders received until 2pm on Wednesday this week - any placed after that will not be with you until at least the following Wednesday (3rd April).

This is your final warning and a really proper official disclaimer that if you run out of food you can’t say we didn’t tell you so, so there.

Also, don’t think that as a subscription holder you are safe from the madness - if your subscription falls over the affected period then make sure you log into your account and bring the date forward ASAP!

🎂 Happy Birthday to Naturaw CEO (Chief Eating Officer) and resident clown Abel who turns the big 0-3 today!

There was chocolate cake for the human team, whilst Abel himself stuck to a non-toxic carrot, banana and peanut butter recipe himself (with not-on-fire Lamb treat candles)

Reluctantly shared with MD Ada (also pictured but stood on all 4 legs), who unfortunately opened all of his presents in a desperate attempt to be the first to be the first to squeak that crisp untainted cotton 🤦‍♀️

Happy International Women’s Day 2024

113 years after the 1st International Women’s Day and there is still work to do. With only 18% of small businesses led by women and a 14.5% gender pay gap in the UK.

We are a proudly female founded business, (in part thanks to Ada the Rhodesian Ridgeback!) and 64% of our human team are female. With no gender pay gap and offering flexible working arrangements because we want to give the women in our team the opportunity to make working possible!

We are 5x the size we were 3 years ago, in no small part thanks to the strong, competent, determined women in our midst.
