North Farm Stud Equestrian

North Farm Stud Equestrian North Farm Stud in Oxfordshire is a BHS-Approved 5* Full/Part Livery yard which also caters for Brood mares.

North Farm Stud - three generations of Thoroughbred experience and the home of

Fawley Stud was set up in the early 1950s by David (Ian) and Agnes Muir and their success was built on the performance of horses bred there. Among these was WHAT A MYTH, who was bred at Fawley Stud and trained by Ryan Price and who won the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 1969 and the Whitbread at Sandown in 1966.

Ryan Price was a regular customer at the stud and a friend of the Muir family. After selling Fawley Stud in 1982, Mr and Mrs Muir spent seven years negotiating with the planning authorities for permission to get change of use on the current site which is now of North Farm Stud. North Farm Stud Ltd was established in 1989 and many of Mr & Mrs Muir's old owners returned to them. Since then the facility has gone from strength to strength under the management of, their youngest daughter, Grace Muir, who was appointed this position in 1998 and continues to build on its past successes. Having found many new homes and careers in the early years for horses in their care who had retired from Racing, North Farm Stud is now dedicating additional resources to its racehorse rehoming and retraining activities in support of the Racing Industry. Grace finally received Charitable Status for a charity called HEROS Charity (Homing Ex-Racehorses Organisation Scheme) in 2006. The charity is based at North Farm Stud and therefore is looked on as the “Home of HEROS”.

It's taken some time with this horse but with HEROS Charity standing with us we get to give the horses the time they need.

The Third Man

Our lovely boy was in a playful mood this morning whilst Sarah was out in full stalker mode with her collection of lenses soaking up the stunning morning. He was curious, gentle and sweet, a side we love to show of HEROS horses.

Third Man came in some time ago. He was stressed and unable to be turned out with other horses - fully defensive and vulnerable. Seeing him like this is so special to us, he also now lives happily in a herd of 4. It's taken a while, but we got there...Happy days 🎉

Mr Boycie and his friends have arrived over the last couple of months and we have enjoyed settling them into a new life. They highlight how important charitable work within the racing industry is. Please remember this when you have enjoyed a day of racing, throw some money in the buckets on the way out or even better consider making regular donations. It is so important to support these horses that bring us so much joy after they have finished racing. Spread the word, like and share this post!

Thank you!

Mr Boycie Quest and the RoR

The story of Boycie's admission to HEROS is complex and private and it would be wrong of us to share the details. However, it came to pass that his owner was unable to care for him and an incredible lady stepped in to help.

The fact that he is here is a testament to a huge amount of work done by this lady, Grace and Philippa at Retraining of Racehorses. They negotiated and funded Boycie's transition from a place of uncertainty to a future of stability. Without this support HEROS simply wouldn't be able to help horses in this way and we are proud to work in partnership with RoR, facilitating and championing the safe, effective and timely aftercare of former racehorses🙏

As for our Mr Boycie (below), a stallion we were concerned might turn the place over, he has taken to his new life just fine. Here he is with pro rider Jess on the weigh bridge without a worry in the world. Beautiful? I think so 👌
..and so we continue...

Searching 👀

We are still looking for an experienced equine professional to join the team as a rider. Riding for North Farm Stud is an interesting role as you will work with horses of all shapes and sizes for lots of different reasons - showjumping, dressage, and of course the ex racehorses that come in via HEROS Charity who are all at various stages in their retraining and rehabilitation. Being able to 'polish' and develop horses is a must, this is not just about riding out. Professional behaviour is expected at all times and successful candidates will be subject to DBS checks in line with requirements for HEROS Education.

There is never a dull moment on our busy yard so staying calm under pressure is essential as is team playing. You will be expected to roll your sleeves up and contribute to the yard work at all levels when needed, have high standards of work, outstanding horse handling skills and a commitment to welfare and treating horses with respect.

Secure, contracted employment with quality accommodation in our beautiful setting is available to the right person.
