🥳KEEP PLACEMENT SUCCESS!🥳

Chester Zoo's primate team recently welcomed Jenny from Exmoor Zoo and Laura from Artis Zoo (NL) for a week long exchange to experience everything from pygmy marmosets to orang-utans!

Jenny said;
"I had an absolutely amazing time at Chester Zoo and have learnt so much that I can hopefully take forward in my career. It was great to be able to meet and work with a mix of species some of which I've always dreamt of working with. Everyone was so friendly and being able to talk to other keepers and ask them lots of questions was super helpful."

Laura said;
"I had the most amazing time with the primate team at Chester Zoo. It was incredibly interesting to work with so many different species, from lemurs to great apes, some of which I had never worked with before. The keepers were so enthusiastic and eager to share their knowledge.
It was insightful to observe the differences in zoo husbandry between the Netherlands and the UK, and I went home with tons of new inspiration!"

We want to say a huge thank you to Chester Zoo for being such welcoming hosts and sharing your knowledge and expertise and thanks Jenny and Laura for taking part and getting stuck in! 🤩

Don't forget, if you're currently a Zookeeper with over a year's paid experience, you're eligible for the programme! To register now, head to www.keeperexchange.org - you never know where you may end up!

You'll get chance to see how browse is sourced and delivered to the zoo’s animals and learn about what species-specific considerations and mitigations are in place, as well as getting an insight into the planning and record keeping of the whole operation. Whilst also learning managing a range of plant species at London Zoo from edible flowers to theming to encouraging native species!

The placements are two days long. Day 1 will be with the Horticulture team harvesting browse within the zoo grounds, silage packing with a larger team (some of whom will be corporate volunteers) and finishing with a tour of the site with London Zoo Horticulture Manager, looking at how the zoo uses browseable plants in their landscaping schemes.
