✨ Winnie ✨
This little hamster rolled in to see us to have his eyes checked out by the vet.
Fun fact: Syrian hamsters can hoard up to half their body weight in food in their cheek pouches which they collect to store in their nests.

✨ Rosie ✨
We occasionally receive gorgeous photos in our email inbox of our patients on their holidays. It is such a lovely sight to see especially if the pet has been poorly recently.
Pictured here is beautiful Rosie the Labrador. She's been on Barra with lots of beach adventures!

Signs of heat stroke in dogs; excessive panting, drooling, bright red or pale gums, vomiting, diarrhoea, and increased heart rate. More severe signs can include confusion, weakness, collapse & seizures.

It is important when trying to cool your dog down not to cover them in damp towels, these heat up quickly with body temperature and cause them to heat up quicker. Use cool running water over your pet and bring them straight to your vet. Keep the car as cool as possible for them.

If you suspect your dog has caught heat stroke contact us immediately on: 01875613593
or our emergency out of hours service, E-Vets on: 0131 662 1689

Staff pet Norman trying to stay cool today. Please be extra careful on these hotter days. We see a lot of animals treated for heat stroke.
Keep them cool and leave them at home. Walk early in the morning or later in the evening and check the ground. Hold your hand on the ground for 5 seconds, if it’s too hot for you it’s way too hot for their paws. We also see burns on pads.
Have a great weekend from all the team. 🐾

⚠️ Blue-Green Algae Warning ⚠️
With more than four reported cases of dogs dying this month after encountering blue-green algae, we are asking dog owners to take extra precautions when walking their pets near water bodies this summer.

Avoid all contact with the affected water and ensure children and pets are kept away.

Report the suspected bloom to the relevant authorities, Bloomin' Algae app or website: This is the preferred method for reporting suspected blooms and will alert you to confirmed locations.
East Lothian Council Environmental Health: Contact them directly (email [email protected] or phone 01738 475000) if you can't use the app.
SEPA Pollution Hotline: Call 0800 80 70 60 to report pollution incidents
