Yesterday I had the pleasure of working with Nellie the French Bulldog and Ralph the German Spitz.
​
Both dogs struggle with reactivity, not only towards other dogs, but also around visitors entering the home, along with a range of other behavioural challenges.
​
Our first session focused on setting them up for success through management strategies, introducing a new routine, enrichment activities, and foundation focus work.
​
Nellie, who can be particularly wary of people, made some fantastic progress during the session. By the end, she was comfortable enough to let me move freely around the house and was even taking treats while we worked on focus exercises together.
​
There is still a long journey ahead for both dogs and their owners, but every journey starts with those first few steps. If they stay consistent and put the work in, I have no doubt that Nellie and Ralph will become an absolute delight both at home and out in the world. 🐶🐾

After finishing my shift at the pet shop on Saturday, I had the pleasure of seeing Nova again.
​
Not only has this gorgeous girl grown so much, but it’s incredible to see how quickly she learns. Watching those “lightbulb moments” when a dog suddenly understands what you’re asking is one of my favourite parts of training. 💡🐾
​
During our session, we continued working on focus exercises, place training, and impulse control. Nova is a very enthusiastic greeter (bless her!), so we’re helping her learn that calm behaviour is often the fastest way to get what she wants.
​
She’s making fantastic progress, and I can’t wait to see what she achieves next!

Last Friday I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Rusty, a 16-week-old Patterjack puppy!
​
Now, in my 13 years of working with dogs, I can honestly say Rusty is one of the mouthiest puppies I’ve ever met! 😂 He has fully embraced the “land shark” phase and is currently convinced that hands, sleeves, ankles, and just about anything else within reach are fair game.
​
Because of this, our first session focused heavily on managing and navigating the teething and puppy biting stage that every owner goes through, helping his owner understand how to guide him through it successfully.
​
Alongside that, we also worked on focus and engagement, place training (as Rusty loves greeting visitors with all four paws off the floor!), sit-stays, collar and lead desensitisation, introducing heel position and loose lead walking, and the importance of providing appropriate mental enrichment to help channel all that puppy energy into something productive.
​
Rusty is a bright, confident little dog with bags of potential, and I’m looking forward to seeing how much progress he makes over the coming weeks. 🐾

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us this morning for the Tamworth Dog Friendly Trail!

We had an amazing 10 dogs attend + Miku, along with their wonderful owners, and it was lovely to see so many people out enjoying the castle grounds together. From tiny explorers to larger adventurers, every dog was an absolute star and a credit to their families. ❤️
​
A special thank you to Novel of Castle Notions for providing water and treats, and to Liz Pet Bakery for supporting the event.

🐾 Just 3 Days To Go! 🐾

This Sunday we’re heading to Tamworth Castle Grounds for a fun, dog-friendly trail and the best bit? It’s completely FREE to attend!
​
📍 Meet at the Watchman Statue
⏰ 9:30am
​
The trail should take around 20–30 minutes and is a great opportunity to get out, explore, and meet fellow dog owners.
​
A huge thank you to Novel of Castle Notions, who will have a water station available for thirsty dogs, along with some tasty treats for your pooches, just visit her store after the trail! 🐶💧
​
🎁 Everyone attending will also receive a special discount voucher for LIZ'S Pet Bakery.
​
Once we’ve completed the trail, I’ll be sticking around for a while, so if you have any dog training or behaviour questions, feel free to come and have a chat.
​
I’ll also be heading over to the dog-friendly Tudor House Café afterwards. They have a fantastic dog menu and often have treats available for canine visitors, making it the perfect way to round off the morning. ☕🐾

Today I had the pleasure of meeting Teddy, a young Parson Russell Terrier, for his first behavioural session. 🐾
​
Teddy’s owners reached out due to concerns around reactivity, guarding behaviours and his struggles with emotional regulation when over-aroused or overstimulated. Like many young terriers, Teddy is incredibly intelligent, driven and full of energy, but underneath those behaviours is also a dog trying to navigate a world that can sometimes feel a little overwhelming.
​
A big focus of today’s session was introducing clearer boundaries, structure and calmer ways for Teddy to interact with both people and his environment. Once consistency was in place and expectations became clearer, Teddy began making much better choices and was able to settle and engage far more appropriately throughout the session.
​
We introduced calmer enrichment ideas, discussed management to prevent rehearsal of unwanted behaviours and began building exercises around focus, decompression and confidence. Teddy showed some lovely engagement throughout the session and his owners were incredibly open, proactive and dedicated to helping him succeed.
​
Behaviour cases like Teddy’s are never about a “bad dog.” Often they are young dogs struggling with arousal, frustration, genetics and emotional control, and with the right guidance and structure they can make fantastic progress.
​
I’m really looking forward to seeing how Teddy develops over the coming weeks. 🐶 🐾
