Your dog isn’t reactive because he’s broken. He’s reactive because he doesn’t trust you to handle what’s happening outside.

Think about it. At home he’s perfect. Listens, comes back when called, waits for his food. Take him outside and he loses the plot completely — lunging, barking, dragging you down the street.

It’s not the dogs or the people or the squirrels. It’s the pressure. Outside, the world is unpredictable. Your dog doesn’t believe you can handle it, so he takes over and handles it himself. That’s what reactivity actually is.

Trust fixes it. And trust comes from leadership — not treats, not avoidance, not crossing the road every time another dog appears.

Socialising your reactive dog at the park isn’t fixing the problem — it’s reopening the wound every single time.

Most owners are told to just expose their dog to more dogs, more people, more situations. But if your dog doesn’t have the neutrality and self-control to handle that exposure, you’re not building confidence. You’re just confirming to the dog that the world is as scary as it thought.

CLIENT UPDATE - Poppy and Molly were rescues from Bosnia, one nervous one slight dominant/confident… both reactive to a point it was a struggle to take them anywhere or walk them,

Now half way through my programme they are smashing situations they couldn’t even imagine being in, now the owners are guiding them through something that would have been impossible before using clear communication and leadership and then the result is a calm neutral confident dog… the system works, no toys, no treats just clear communication the dog understands.. well done to you all ❤️🐕🐕
